A better story occurred Thursday on Mt. Bachelor @ Cloudchaser Lift -

Typically many people love to practice their reading comprehension by proclaiming what our name tags read.

‘Baton Rouge’ gets exclaimed a lot; they also tell me I’m pretty far from home.

Anyway Thursday, I hear ‘Baton Rouge’ and then I’m asked if I’m an LSU fan.

I say hell yes I am, even earned an undergrad there.

I also always wear a chain with an LSU pendant, so I showed it to him.

He was psyched. Seriously - he was incredibly upbeat and genuinely glad to be talking with me. He even took a run back down Cloud and chatted with me a second time when he loaded the chair again.

He said he played baseball for LSU but I wouldn’t know who he was because I was too young.

Then I told him how old I was and he told me how old he was and I figured he was on a team around ‘86 or ‘87 so I asked him if he played during that time.

He sure did and introduced himself as Brian Wilhite.

Our last words to each other were damn strong -

LSU FOREVER!
(he even knew to throw the L)

Thanks for that Brian. It made my week as I got to meet one of the many legends of LSU.

Very Cool Story One72!

On a different note, is the forecast hot as hell this weekend everywhere, or just in Colorado during Mardi Gras?

Next week setting up to be nice out west for us Mardi Gras skiers.

Clear and warm when we fly into Park City on Saturday then Sunday night through most of the week we should a good dusting and cooler temps the entire week.

Looks similar for Colorado as well.

Heading to Banff tomorrow. They haven’t been getting dumped on like the most of the L48 and PNW, but they did get a few storms the past week that dropped around 10-12 inches. Better than nothing!

Still super cold up there so every little bit holds pretty well.

Weather app shows us waking up to fresh pow at my house on Mardi Gras. Hopefully that makes its way down to PC for ya.

Warm isn’t even the word here in the PNW - we are rapidly advancing towards ‘sweatbox’

I was in polo shirt today at work:

We gettin tans now, out ‘chea, in the wild blue yonder of Oregon USA.

Happy Mardi Gras all.

My woman and I made six King Cakes in Bend, the other two are cooling now. Not bad for my first try ever. Shout out to LSUAG Center for the easy method and my woman who did the supervising and decorating (she’s a trip):

8” rounds, in pans to spread love on the mountain tomorrow.

Fargonbison, et alia, I’ll be @ the Bird the weekend of 11-13 APR.

Gonna be with friends but would love to see all my Utah posters.

Let’s get postered. Make posters. Roast roller coasters.

Whatever it takes.

Got a friend coming in town late March. I'll be all out of Bird days by then :(

Probably will only have Brighton and Solitude days left at that point.

Nice job on the king cakes though

I’ve got a bunch of days on Ikon, I can share my pass.

I also know some parking lot dudes that’ll get you up for a crisp $100 bill.

I’m resourceful. Let’s make it happen if you’re in town.

Just got back from CB (first time). Snowboarding is the longest it’s ever taken me to pick up something athletically. It didn’t click until the last day, of course. Made it down a green without falling, I’ll take that

It took me five consecutive days of being beaten to shite.

Honestly I was about a half day away from never trying it again.

But on the fifth day, something clicked and I was hooked. Hooked since 1999.

The first 2-3 days I was still having fun, learned how to fall gracefully, kept thinking “it’s ok, it’s like riding a bike, it’ll click soon.” On days 4 and 5 that fun turned to resentment, especially after 2-3 really painful falls. I was coming down a kids slope and trying to practice stopping on my heel, then suddenly I got whiplashed forward and thought I broke my frickin wrist.

I was getting super pissed and started to think “I’m a ball sport guy, not a board sport guy, frick this” and then boom I just magically held a big heel turn down the top of a slope and it just made sense. Eventually I was able to “falling leaf” on my heel side down a whole slope, then I was able to link some turns on subsequent runs. I laughed hard at a video someone took of me because I was going so slow (when it felt like I was going insanely fast lol) but just glad I got somewhat of a feel for it before leaving. Trip would’ve been a complete failure if I didn’t have that mental breakthrough.

It’s surreal to be falling every 5 seconds and then just sit and wonder why you can’t get it, while little kids and the special ed skiers/snowboarders just blast past you. Literally had a Down Syndrome guy style on me, zoomed by my arse at 100mph and was just carving his way down effortlessly LMAO

I will also say, it made a huge difference going up the mountain. On all the kid / class slopes at the bottom, it was like straight ice. When I went up that lift, I immediately felt the difference with having more powdery snow, just seemed like I could feel the board’s responsiveness to my movements better. I’d like to go somewhere with really fresh snow

And the story will continue with you getting better.

It is pretty insane how fast progression occurs every single time you step on that board.

I am still learning new tricks at 47. The trick for this season was backside 360s. Got them on lock now.

Cheers man, you just picked up a new hobby.

Good shite. I did just remember that is my wife's B-day (13th) and I think we were gonna head down to Arches NP that weekend. I'll let you know if that doesn't work out
