When the top is closed, we just run the mid to lower face of the main lodge area between High Five Express and Face Lift Express.

All of that is closed/on wind hold today. Canyon is fully open as is chair 25. Have found some excellent powder stashes off 22 and 25. Got like 12 runs in so far (3 hrs)

Day 1 Mammoth Review-

Based on the anticipated wind holds and upper mountain being shut down, I opted to try and hit up the Canyon Lodge region of the mountain. There is a free public bus system in Mammoth so no need to drive to the mountain. Got to the mountain around 730am and then walked around the village area. Overnight got 12-13" so it was gonna be a great day

Gondola view

Village view

Ended up starting off chair 8

Low visibility most of the morning

The snow was great and untouched early. Saw them spinning chair 22 and went over, but it was still in a hold. Ended up going to chair 16 Canyon express

By the time I got back to 22 it was open. Pretty steep stuff over there and again untouched. After several laps, I ended up going off the back side towards chair 25. Somehow, chair 25 was running (it normally does not run). Every lap was free refills

Lapped chair 25 about 6 or 7 runs then the winds were brutal and I had to make my way lower on the mountain. Trees were awesome off chair 8

Stopped for lunch at the canyon lodge. On my way out I noticed that chair 5 (high five) was showing as open! Went back out and took chair 16 then got to chair 5 just as it was opening. Untouched with no lines for several laps

No vis

At this point the lines picked up for 5 so I made my way back towards canyon. Stopped over by chair 22 (closed for wind holds) and there was no one there

What a great first day out here. Can't wait for two more here and one at Palisades. Another 20" forecasted friday-Sunday

It was an awesome day outside of the whole lightning hold. Must have snowed 3-4 inches during the whole thunder snow event, the mountain got 7-11 inches counting what fell last night. Had a few untouched runs down broken heart, the wind and snow filled it back in. White bark was also a lot of fun. Pretty much lapped six shooter and lone tree all day. The sun even made an appearence late in the day...

Tomorrow I am riding the new tram!

Did you happen to notice what the price was today? Conditions were so bad early february they were charging $20.

$25 but conditions were pretty brutal early in the day, they'll probably bump it up tomorrow.

Day 2 at mammoth was also killer. 4" at the main lodge but it rode like 12". Still fresh stashes all over the mountain. Had hung out by the base lodge so lower gondola, Broadway, chair 12 then worked my way over to stump grinder, chair 22, the trees off 25, high 5, and then lastly face lift. What a killer day, 21 runs in about 5.5 hrs. And I'm pretty sure they just got another foot overnight

ETA: Officially 13" overnight, my poor legs...

Day 3 at Mammoth- 13-14" overnight, wonderful day. Sun came out for a bit so got some good shots

First run I forgot to lean back so leaned forward when hitting the powder and double ejected . At least it was soft

The snow was so good but tough to turn in

Got to see peak 9 and the summit

It was so deep off Face lift

Even got to see the mascot!

Overall, I had a really good time in Mammoth. The town itself is great, skiing was excellent, and people were surprisingly friendly. Would highly recommend if you have the time to go there, it is difficult to get to but worth it.

Drove back towards Tahoe and hit some nasty snow on 395 about 90 miles out. Then hit rain, followed by sleet. Then another full snow storm on 50 towards Tahoe. Glad I made it safely to Tahoe city, Palisades/Squaw tomorrow then flying out of here

Just got back today, last two days were also great. On Friday I stuck around the moonlight side, snow was still very nice. A lot of fun in the trees Broken Heart, White Bark, Single/Double Jack with a few Challenger runs mixed in as well. Finished the day with some fast groomers down Andesite and a Yeti Dog since I was so focused on skiing I never stopped to eat anything. The Texi dog was solid.

Started Saturday with a Tram lap, first time riding the new tram and it was a short wait to get to the top. Views were awesome, snow down Liberty Bowl was pretty chopped up. My legs were on fire afterward, took it easy on a few groomers before doing a few final laps down Six Shooter and calling it a trip and a season.

Glad I could make it out to Big Sky and the conditions were much better than expected, some of the best late season skiing I have had there.

We just left Breckenridge. Drove in Wednesday evening after flying to Denver.

Spring skiing needs to be more of a thing. Crowds were generally very small compared to earlier in the season. It snowed in some measure every single day. Absolutely perfect conditions that were missed by most.

Don't you worry, I've got a trip to CO scheduled in two weeks

I almost went in February, glad I waited. People thought I was crazy to drive that far for three days of skiing but it was well worth it.

Mammoth looks awesome, one of the places on my ski bucket list I need to get to.

Cody Townsend just released the last episode of The Fifty where they skied Bloody Couloir near Mammoth. I looked at it on a map, and searched for nearby airports and I guess I never realized how hard Mammoth was to get to. Kudos to Cuse Tiger for making the trip!

Between the lack of crowds, constant refreshes, and a few inches the night before...

yesterday was my best ski day of the season. I hope the masses never figure out how good April skiing can be.

Around Easter, we had fresh snow practically every day. And very small numbers on the resort at Breckenridge, as usual for Spring. Awesome.

Tragic. But incredibly stupid. Even if he made it over the road, there is a wall of trees that could have killed him too. Assuming the photo is of the jump spot.

Many fail to also realize how close Mammoth is to Yosemite NP.

Serious place. Granite everywhere.
