Whistler is kind of the Vegas of skiing....The place is big, busy and loud.
And full of Americans doing more partying than skiing. Typical. American resort trash in pristine Canada. No thanks.

We ended up deciding on Whistler for next year. Went ahead and secured lodging and flights. Goin the week before Christmas. Way early for that but I found some good deals and went ahead and locked it in. Where did y’all stay in Whistler. I put us at the pan pacific Whistler mountainside.

I stayed at the Alpenglow Lodge at an airbnb I found a good deal on, place was nice just far enough away from the all the noise but close enough to walk anywhere. I ate at Pizza Antico, really solid wood fired pizza. Wish I had time try a few more places but between skiing and getting there at 11 pm Friday night didn't have much time for anything else. Stayed at the Fairmount at the airport last night, great place if you have an early flight out.

I defintely prefer the Revelstoke vibe but if I was taking a trip with a bunch of friends I could see Whistler being a great spot. Tons of things to do there, somebody that doesn't even ski would be fine going there.
Sun Peaks is a great family spot, laid back place with a great little village. It does lack some of gnarly stuff that Revy and Whistler has but I was find powder stashes days after it stormed. Pretty much zero lift lines, lots of great cruiser runs.
Revy had great glades, some super gnarly terrian that can have you cliffed out if you aren't careful. Deepest powder day of my life there, easily a top 5 mountain for me.

Appreciate the info. So far our plan is to fly IAH- Vancouver. Stay the first day/night there. Then head up to Whistler for 5 days and plan to ski 3-4. Wife and kids want to try the bobsledding at Whistler sliding centre. Head back to Vancouver for one more night before our flight home. It’ll be in December the week before Christmas so hopefully the snow will be decent then.

Anybody know which resort/run Chase Elliot was at on Friday?

Can you skip work?. This has been an epic trip so far, I've been bringing the snow everywhere I've gone. 16" at sun valley, 4" at big sky, 9" at Jackson so far. Get ready UT and CO
I wish. Working on a project and I have to travel to go check it out. I’ll be in summit county Friday afternoon after I get back from the trip.

We weren’t slopeside. We were on the Blackcomb side. The Villas Snowberry. Party of 6. All intermediate to expert riders. On bus route 5.
Decent place away from the base. Quiet, which I liked.

I travel from BTR and meet friends from NY, NJ and WA. We travel all over together (Austria, AK, WA, OR, UT, MT, et alia) searching for the abyss.
We didn’t go all the way to Whistler to be at a loud, trashy, crass resort. We could have remained inside the continental US for that. Whistler lacked everything that is right about Canada - steep tree serenity, grisly cliff drops, raw and unfiltered wilderness.
Whistler has all the filters. It will suit many. I’m sure it’s a blast for families that shop around a base more than they ski.
To each their own.

Absolutely. I rode glades there for four days. Dropped a handful of cliffs (out of necessity), laid it down in an active stream (by accident again) and just floated around in the snow globe.
It was remarkable. No one around but my crew.
Those are the days that dreams are made of.
There is a reason that one of the Natural Selection tour stops this year is at Revelstoke, not Whistler.

Read on the Denver Post this morning that prices increased 8%. Also they are planning to have your pass on your phone so no more plastic passes. They will somehow be able to scan them through your jacket without you doing anything.
I'm waiting to see Ikon prices before deciding which to get.
Also Floyd Hill construction is starting later this month. 5 year project to replace the bridges over Clear Creek and add another westbound lane to Idaho Springs. The transportation dept at my firm did the design work for it. The head of that dept said it will be a mess...

Unpopular opinion: Prices need to increase and access need to be more specific. I think you should have to pick a home mountain and get 2 days at the other mountains on the basic pass.

I don’t really remember what we paid last year . For 4 skiers and 3 days (non holiday ) for the “all resorts” option which we had to have to include Whistler it came out to 1100$. Also you don’t have to pay anything until September if you don’t wanna shell out the $ now.

Great. I just bought mittens with the card slot on the back

Seems like the smart thing would be to still use the cards but give ppl ability to add it to their Apple or google wallet as a backup in case you lose it.

Ikon couldn't do this, most of the mountains are not owned by Alterra and have season passes that are in some cases double the cost of the most expensive Ikon pass. Most of the resorts are on the pass because they want people to spend a week at their resort and spend all of their money there.
Epic owns most of its resorts but its pass is built on smaller ski areas being used to attract people to take vacations to the destination resorts on its pass.
I do expect both Epic and Ikon will use reservations more, multiple Ikon mountains have them and now Epic has added it to Telluride.

I’m being a contrarian just for discussion purposes. Of course I don’t want prices to increase especially considering how many passes I have to buy to bring my family where we want to go. I do believe prices will continue to increase dramatically and access will be reduced.
Case in point is the new Epic Local Pass excludes access on “Peak Days” for your 10 days at Vail/BC in addition to blackout days. I’m not seeing options for Tahoe local pass which previously included 5 days at the CO local pass spots. If you want to ride Tahoe you need the full pass.

What kinda ski gear do y’all like ? Lots of winter clearance sales goin on and I’m considering a new ski jacket. The Columbia 3-in-1 had a good run. I know Columbia isn’t really a big name in ski gear but that was a damn good jacket.
Posted on 3/8/23 at 12:38 am to jkylejohnson
I use a Patagonia shell over a basic hoodie. The jacket is very well made and at a decent price point. I’ve seen brand new Flylow jackets split at the seem, saw a guy in an Arteryx get the arm ripped off in the trees. There’s a lot of overpriced stuff out there. If I had to buy a jacket it would probably be Stio (owned and made in the US) or Noronna.
My pants are basic North Face. The bottoms get shredded by the end of the season but they are pretty good otherwise.
