Good news for the Utah folks. Looks like that high pressure shifted and there’s 7” in the forecast for next week. CO and Jackson are looking at 1’+. Tahoe still bone dry.

Fingers crossed this holds up.

My biggest pet peeves

1. Snowboarders who side slip and falling leaf down runs

2. Snowboarders who sit on their arse in the middle of runs

3. Snowboarders who block the exit of lifts to strap in instead of going off to the side

4. People who don't use headphones and instead use a loud speaker to blast their music for all to hear. 100% of the time these are Snowboarders. Had to ride a chair yesterday with a snowboarder blasting out loud crappy rap music laced with profanity.

5. Large groups who block the entrance to Lift lines as they wait for the rest of their group. Usually these are families and they are screaming the name(s) of those they are waiting on and waving but the people they are calling for can't hear them. I got into it with a group because they were blocking the entrance to Pete's Express in Blue Sky Basin and finally I just went by them which required me to slide my ski over one of their boards and they got really heated about that since it was a new snowboard. I told them not to block the entrance if you don't want your new snowboard run over.

Next time don’t come to Breck. Leave the Snowboard vs Skier shite in the 80’s, or go to Deer Valley, or Alta.

You didn't mention snowboarders who put no rhyme or reason into their path down the slope and instead weave in and out randomly, getting in the way of faster skiers.

I get that the person in front of you always has the right of way, but I can't tell you how many times I've had to eat shite because some Cali hipster f@g snowboarder without a helmet on cut me off. They're always some 15-20 y/o kid too.

The dirtball element is certainly there with boarders but it’s there and growing stronger with skiers. The speakers, crowding the lift areas, etc have nothing to do what’s on your feet and all to do with being oblivious or inconsiderate.

The solution is to go higher up on the mountain. Changes in Altitude, changes in attitude

I did Prima Cornice at Vail for the first time today. It was steep and terrifying. I got lucky that a patroler entered behind me when I went through the gate and gave me some pointers. The picture doesn't do it justice at all on how steep and narrow it was. My run wasn't pretty but I made it down and can say I did it

Also map of my day. Even for someone like me who skis first chair to last mid week, waits in no lines all day and doesn't take any breaks its so hard to cover a lot of terrain. The snow in the AM was icy, I did WOW in the Sun down bowl and it was terrible. Did 5 solid runs in Blue Sky Basin as the snow was better there. China Bowl wasn't too bad so I did Dragons Teeth and Genghis Kahn. Started the day with Prima and Pronto back to back. Ended with a Riva Ridge top to bottom. 34000 vertical feet according to my Garmin. Didn't wait in a line all day

I had a border last time at Copper bitch at me for "turning in front of him".

If this is when I was a shitty skier, Id get it because Id be erratic turning. Not now. Coming into the base in a slow area, making very deliberate turns. Border comes flying down and bitches about me "cutting in front of them".

This was also a teenager though, which really seems to be the LCD.

Hitting Beaver Creek today. My goal is to do every run off Birds of Prey and Grouse, and do Stone Creek Chutes. Would love to top to bottom Peregrine, but according to EpicMix the upper part isn't open. Bummer as thats my favorite run at BC. Only time I've been was on a powder day, so today should be way different.

Let me know how the Stone chutes are. Last weekend the glades off Grouse were pretty firm and kind of a bobsled run so we decided to wait for another time to try Stone Creek.

I would not do it until there is a good dumping of snow. I did it today just for the sake of saying I did it but the chute I picked(I think it was No Chance) was crusty and hard. I made about 2 turns before saying frick it, and just slid down because I was by myself, no one else was there and I didn't want to slip and fall to the bottom with no one to help me. It was hard to gain any kind of traction especially in a steep chute like that. Plus my legs were dead since I did it toward the end of the day and didn't trust myself. I am not a strong chute skier, the steepness doesn't bother me but the narrowness does and I was not confident I could get my skis turned around. But once I got out of the chute and into the runout, there was some knee deep powder to be found.

I had a scare this morning on Golden Eagle as the top portion was very icy, which is another reason I didn't really fully commit on No Chance. When I did Golden Eagle a couple times last year it was on a powder day so it was completely different and perhaps made me a bit over confident this morning. First turn on Golden Eagle this morning I slipped since it was all ice and hit my hip HARD. I thought my day and trip was over, but after about 5 minutes I got up and continued down. I have a softball sized bruise on my right hip from the impact.

I did accomplish my goal of hitting every run off Birds of Prey and Grouse(except Royal Elk Glade, not a fan of tree runs). As the day went on and the sun got up and warmed the snow it got a lot softer which made the runs off Grouse easier. Peregrine is still my favorite

But man am I wiped out - my legs are hurting. 4 days in a row of first to last chair skiing with no breaks. I've done plenty of 4 days in a row trips before, but never 5, and will do a 3rd and final day at Vail tomorrow. We will see how my legs hold, but I should be done with the hard/scary stuff for the trip and will probably just stick to easier runs tomorrow. Call me iron legs.

Anyway here is a pic of the Stone Creek Chutes, like always the picture doesn't do it justice(and you can see Vail's Game Creek Bowl and Blue Sky Basin in the background):

And partial map from today. It took almost all day to get all this done. Runs not in the map that I did were Centennial, Buckshot, President Ford's, Larkspur, Loco, and Sawbuck. 34,000 vertical feet total.

Here’s the thing, I live here and ski or snowboard almost every day. I hear this same thing from both sides. The only people who seem to get it, are those who do both. The person downhill from you always has the right of way no matter which equipment you’re on.

Yeah almost everyone who complains about one side or the other has no self awareness and probably rides like a dick themselves. Most people are out there on vacation trying to forget about the world's problems. I know people suck but if you can't let the road rage go while you're up there then you have a problem

Late to the party but Friday my goal was to get 40,000 vertical feet at Vail. It took taking the first chair up Born Free Express at 8:30am and having to take Pride Express up 5 minutes before the lifts closed and only one bathroom break all day, but I barely got it done. For a Friday the crowds were not bad at all and I never had to wait more than a minute for any lift.

Here are the runs I did on my 3 days at Vail to show you how much you can get done in 3 days if you ski first chair to last chair, take no breaks to eat or rest, and only one bathroom break, going through the singles lines for the lifts:

Finally made it back out to Big Sky, the place needs some snow was there on Monday and it was like mid-December conditions. Still found some good chalky snow in the bowl off powderseeker and the groomers off Andesite had the best coverage. Could basically ski onto Ramcharger if you wanted, the new Swift 6 chair is the real deal. With Big Sky adding a gondola that will link to the new Tram, the mountain might have the best lifts anywhere. Video for what they have planned.... LINK

I haven't read into the plans for big sky yet but it sounds promising. I hope to head there in early to mid March as it looks like the snow pattern changes this coming weekend.

Review of Taos below. I had a great time and would absolutely head back there. The mountain itself was challenging, fun, and had a wide variety of terrain. They got 3 feet of snow last week so despite having to avoid a few rocks the snow was soft and in great condition. For those in Texas, this is probably the closest skiing for you within driving distance besides Colorado. Flew in and out of Albuquerque, it's 3 hours to/from Taos while Santa Fe is an hour closer with a 2 hour drive. Spent the first night in Santa Fe to get closer to the mountain.

Skied 3 days at the mountain. Since I am just getting over covid, the first and last days were 3-4 hours worth of skiing while the second day was 9am-3pm. The mountain itself is about 30 minutes outside of town. You drive on a windy road up until it dead ends at the ski resort. I got there late on the first day (11am) so ended up parking a decent ways out. There are cattle car shuttles that drive you directly to the bottom of Chair 1/the base which worked out perfect.

Trail map for reference to runs/areas below

Got up top of Chair 1 then made my way over to Chair 2 to get high up on the mountain. Had a look around

Worked my way over to Chair 4 to see what Kachina Peak was all about. View from Chair 4

Get on the Kachina lift and make my way to the top at 12,341 ft elevation.

Stunning views in every direction

View looking over towards the road on the way to town and the plains

From the top of the lift, you can navigate across the ridge towards a bunch of different chutes. You had to watch for rocks here but it was possible to get around them. Here's a view from the top of one of the K chutes

View towards some of the chutes by the lift

First run I did up here was Cabin Chutes. Extremely difficult terrain, very narrow and tough to get down. But the snow was excellent so it made turning possible and easy, plus no rocks here

Little further out view

Even further out view

View looking up towards Kachina Peak and the chutes

Was getting tired so did some groomers over off Chair 7

Then made my way back to Chair 2 under the lift and had some fun steep open runs. Lapped this area and did some tree runs

End of the day hit up Spencer's Bowl for a decent view of the base

Days 2 and 3 I hit up similar areas of Kachina peak like the Lift Shack Chute (steepest run of the weekend) but then also ventured to Walkyries Glade

And over to Chair 8. Few groomers over in this area but it was a good easy break for the legs

My favorite areas were Kachina Peak K1 chute, Cabin chute, Lift Shack chute, Castor trees by lift 2, and Longhorn off lift 1. Groomers off of lift 4 were also very nice. The snow was very soft in all of these spots and while there were some rocks to avoid, it was enjoyable skiing. I wish the lifts were faster (only lift 1 was a high speed quad, every other lift is slow) but for a weekend there were no to minor lift lines saturday and nothing sunday/monday. Would highly recommend as a ski area to visit on the Ikon Pass
