A minivan for the week is $1,200. Full size SUV $1,500 ?
It used to be like $550 / week. Rental car market is bad right now. I definitely would try to rent 3+ months in advance going forward
You might check Turo. Those are normally a lot cheaper. It seems like people cancel over half the time IME though. Could leave you in a bad spot days before the trip

I think I paid under $300 for an SUV for a week last year out of DIA, it is crazy how expensive it is. Major reason why I flew straight into Aspen for my last trip. I would recommend trying to fly into Eagle but I guess you are going to be in Denver for a few days so that won't work, I have heard some people getting last minute deals on rental cars but obviously you can't bank on that.

Find a corporate discount code. I paid about $120 for a 3 day rental with National at SLC. Unless you need the large SUV there are plenty of capable vehicles in the aisle.

Ya there's two kids and 4 adults and the kids are in car seats.

Usually do that. We were going to San Diego as of last week but then they brought back masks and with the continued freak out could shutdown altogether so fast audible to this. Believe me not a fan of switching my vacation destination three weeks from departure

You may be better off going with 2 cars instead of one large SUV in that case.

That was a very interesting GFS run tonight. It does a sudden stratospheric warming (SSW for now on), and unleashes the polar cold across the NW before dropping it across the rest of the country.
Wonder if we see any consistency or any other models start doing it. A SSW would throw huge ?s into the start of the year pattern.
Those questions are for later days though, because most of the period looks snowy.
I70 travelers: Christmas Eve and potentially the day before will have snow. Expect traction law to be in effect over Vail Pass at the very least.
The entire week after Christmas looks active too.

I’m using turo for the first time This March in big sky. The cheapest car from one of the big rental companies was $147/day while I’m getting a 2021 Jeep gladiator for $85/day on turo.

Whats traction law? We rented a keep gladiator for our Breck/Vail trip from Turo. Obviously four-wheel drive but also says it has snow tires/chains. Are we good?

Take the free Park City Transit bus
This, look at my screenshot of my apps from the previous page and get the myStop app. It’s for PC transit and it’s fantastic. You can look at live locations of the buses and decide in the colored route you want to take and even get notifications sent to your phone when the bus is getting close. We used it a lot last season on our PC trip and we’re very pleased with the app and the transit system as a whole.
Did y'all not rent cars? I can't imagine hauling your gear on the bus would be any easier than driving huh?

We rented a car only because we spent a day in SLC before and then turned it in when we got to PC. When you say gear do you mean your luggage from the airport or just your everyday riding gear? I mean the bus was pretty easy. It’s full of people going skiing so most people sit down and out their board/skis between their legs. I found no issue with it and also they drop you off in very convenient locations so didn’t have to park and walk from the back of a parking lot. And it’s free.
FWIW I’m going to PC in February and will not rent a car at all. Shuttling from airport to my hotel and then will use the shuttle while I’m there. Granted, it’s just me and all I’ll have is my snowboard bag and a backpack.

Yeah, you're good.
It just means you need good winter tires or put chains on.

We're flying in to SLC on Wednesday. We're taking an Uber to our condo in Park City. It's supposed to be like $50. We're taking the free transit every where else l.

$40-50 sounds about right for multiple different ways to get from SLC to PC. If you’re getting quoted for much more than that, look elsewhere. I’m staying at PC Hostel and they linked me to a shuttle service which was $43 one way.

What shuttle service is that?

I rented an SUV from Avis at the SLC Airport for $400(Dec 21 to 26) on October 4

Crested Butte is about to get pounded with snow later this week. Just in time for me to fly in on Friday

Heading home from Aspen today so I thought I would post a brief review while I wait for my flight. This place definitely lives up to the hype. Truly a place for any level of skier. Buttermilk an ideal beginners mountain, mellow easy terrian. Highlands and Aspen Mountain both are great for skilled intermediates and higher, fantastic views. Highlands might be one of my top 5 favorites mountains. Going to have to come back and ski Highland Bowl one day, conditions just weren't good enough and neither was my conditioning. I could probably ski it but the hike at the elevation would have been tough.
Snowmass would be my second favorite mountain of the four. It has everything, a great place to base yourself, more affordable slopside lodging than Aspen and the bus system makes going to any mountain simple. Best part of the trip was almost no lift lines, may have waited a few minutes once or twice on the weekend but for the most part there were zero crowds to deal with.
