I got clipped today by some guy flying down one of the blues where everything funnled down, I was fine but the guy who clipped my ski took a nasty fall.

Let’s talk preventing/combatting altitude sickness

I live at sea level. I slacked a little bit on cardio this ski preseason as I was sick on and off for a month leading up to my trip. Plus the gym is under maintenance so I haven't been playing basketball. Anyways, I struggled hard in Keystone 2 weeks ago

Here's my advice:

1) definitely talk to your doctor and get an acetazolamide prescription if you're worried about it. It helps a lot

2) avoid alcohol. Don't drink a drop if you're struggling

3) drink tons of water. I wear a camelbak on the slopes

4) buy big cans of O2. I went through about 4 in Keystone. I woke up one night with severe nausea, pounding headache, and basically felt like I was about to die (took my blood O2 in pic above). Ripped O2 a few times and nausea subsided long enough for me to take a Phenergan, drink some water and go back to sleep.

5) do cardio well in advance

EDIT: Anyone care to explain the downvotes? I assume it's disagreeing with either 1, 2, or 4

Damn man! .77 is no joke.

Another option is to get an oxygen machine delivered to your room.

Hit up Copper today. It’s a fantastic mountain with great infrastructure. The snow was great, even surfy in some of the newly opened spots.

Winter Park is on tap for tomorrow.

Sneaky powder day in Snowmass for me today, must have gotten 6+ inches at Elk Camp. Was crazy to just keep lapping it all day, no lift lines at all. Have two days left here, going to hit up Aspen Mountain tomorrow and probably Highlands on Sunday.

OMG that's liquid precip.

So multiply that by at least 10 for the number of snow inches at play.

Serves that guy right, the people flying down runs with only 10% of terrain open are acting incredibly recklessly.

I went from sea level where I live to 12,000 ft (Loveland Pass) in less than 12 hours. Plus, I had what was left of a respiratory infection. I was doing Google research trying to figure out at what point I was going to die . I figured as long as I wasn't coughing up a pink froth from HAPE then I could struggle through it.

You were right in freaking out. That’s not a good number. I don’t know if spending a night in Denver helps prevent altitude sickness, but it certainly doesn’t hurt.

An unexpected 4” overnight at WP. I’ll take it!

26 runs open today. Pathetic.

It's actually more like 13 runs since the Quicksilver Gondola isn't open, so the Park City side and and Canyon side aren't connected. 14 Park City runs and 12 Canyon runs. So you have to drive over between sides to actually do all 26.

It's hilarious they have 17 lifts open to service 26 trails. Makes no sense.

Next week is shaping up to be a giant waste of time. If I could I would have rebooked my trip next week for Tahoe but its too late

Why does EpicMix app show zero Breck lifts open but OnTheSnow app shows 14? I know Breck is open, is this just a glitch in the EM app?

Also, what apps does everyone use? These are mine.

I've never done this. I need to give it a shot. That would have been better than sucking down O2 cans. I did almost order a mobile IV.

I'll be there in a few days. Is there enough snow to open more lifts and trails?

So I’m reading you can’t fly with the O2 cans, are these easy to find once we land? We are flying into Denver and staying in Silverthorne.

I'd just pick them up at a gas station in Denver. They're pretty much all over the place though. Ski shops at the mountain will have them too albeit at somewhat of a mark-up

They're at every gas station and grocery store I go into up here.

goldennugget, WTF is happening at Park City. Mind boggling they dont have more terrain open. Guess H2O might have some insight.
