Highlands is my go to MTN. 95% of the time but I knew it would be a $hit show over there with lift lines on a Sunday & powder day. The temerity lift line backs up quick with traffic from the steeplechase side, the temerity side, and the bowl. I was over at Highlands 2 weeks ago and the temerity lift line was backed up to the bowl exit (end of North Fork run out). Also I hiked up from the top of Cloud 9 lift around to Steeplechase b/c the line at the bottom of Loge was out towards the Merry-Go-Round restaurant. I'll be at Highlands this weekend in the G-Zones. Gotta get my bowl laps in!

If you go to Breckinridge or are in the Denver area, see Jeff at Boot Fixation. I’m as slew footed as they come, couldn’t walk without pain for two weeks after skiing three days in rental boots. Went to see Jeff, and almost shed a tear from the comfort that first run in his boots. Paid 400 for the inserts and labor, and feel like I cheated him.

That looks awesome!

How many runs do you get? Is there a choice in terrain?

We got 9 bumps up on the CAT.

Waist deep snow for eight hours.

Close to all time for me - I dropped after the guide so I saw one track all day.

The rates on their site don’t sound too bad. A cat tour at Keystone is about the same price

I’d ride that CAT everyday of my life if I could.

Waist deep, free refills all day.

After all this back and forth about the best powder day spot, we'll likely also hit Snowmass Sunday after the dump Saturday night.
I love some powder tree runs, but I'm not about that lift line life. (or hiking from C9 over to Steeplechase).

United announced they are going to provide bus service from DIA to Breckinridge. Interesting offering.
9News

“ Customers connecting to Breckenridge or Fort Collins from DIA will transfer to the bus service within the secure airside area of the terminal. The bus will depart from an assigned gate on DIA's Concourse A.
Checked-in baggage will be transferred directly from the plane to the bus.
United said the service will be as seamless for customers as if they were connecting to another flight.
The United and Landline service will launch daily from DIA to Breckenridge on Thursday, March 11.”

As if Breck isn't crowded enough. Just have to go to A-basin more.

I can certainly do without Breck if that’s where the airline wants to funnel them.

Have an awesome time up there, skiing was great when I went on super bowl sunday .

I'm at home, beat from skiing jackson hole 3 days last weekend (posting pictures/ski review in the next post below). I did have crystal reserved today but cancelled, the lots filled up by 10:30am yesterday . Didn't feel like dealing with long lines and 4 hrs of driving today. I am going to Mt. Bachelor in late march for 2 days, get to explore Bend for the first time!

Ski trip review of jackson hole below. Finally had time to fill this out with some pictures. We skied the entire mountain all 3 days and had a blast, tons of fresh snow each day which made for a great weekend.

Trail map of jackson hole for context (I can readjust this size is it's too large on mobile)

Day 1: One of our friends needed to get his lift ticket (30 min wait) so the other 5 of us took the sweetwater gondola up to get a feel for the mountain. Fresh tracks then made it down to the base and took Teewinot to Apres Vous. Immediately hit up Saratoga bowl and that was awesome. Tons of cool trees, pretty steep terrain, and knee deep powder. Stayed over there for a few runs then moved over to Teton quad. The trees over in Moran Woods were epic, almost hip deep powder in spots. Again we stayed here for 3 or 4 runs since it was so good before moving over to Casper for lunch. Visibility absolutely sucked in this area all weekend for some reason

Casper area

I think this picture below is looking from near the top of casper/bridger gondola over towards thunder chair/the tram

After lunch we made our way over to the marmot double and thunder chair. The terrain under the double was definitely steeper than it looked in spots, but again pretty fun with good snow.

Thunder chair had quite a long wait for the lift, but great terrain and the only way to get up to Sublette lift without taking the tram.

It was getting late at this point so we only got 2 runs in over here before heading down the Buffalo bowl. Of course we missed the cat track to get back to the base so had to take the union pass quad.

Day 2: Similar to day 1, again took the Teewinot to Apres Vous. By the time we made our way to the Teton lift, no one was over there so we had plenty of time to hit Moran Woods/Kemmerer area for a few laps in fresh powder.

Since we hadn't hit up sublette or thunder much on day 1, we started to make our way over that way. Immediately under thunder chair in the trees had some of the best powder. After a few runs, made our way over to Sublette for some exploration

At the top, we experienced a whiteout so tried to hurry down into the trees off Pepi's run.

Unfortunately, we made a right turn and found some rock cliffs off Table Rock/Split Rock. Managed to make our way out and take sublette up again. At this point, winds were picking up (20-30mph) so we made our way down Tensleep to Cirque.

Picture looking up at Corbet's to the left, was deep and untouched back here. Best run of the day was the last one on Snag Tree

Day 3: Only had a half day before flying out so we tried to go from 9am-2pm. Started with bridger gondola and went to thunder chair for some quick runs before the lines got long. Headed over to sublette for some fun and ended up on the alta chutes for some steep double blacks. I think the picture below was from the other side of the chutes (table rock)

Worked out way down tensleep and cirque again before heading over to Casper/Teton lifts to end the day. At this point, the knee deep powder was not as prevalent so we made our way back down to the base and headed to the airport.

Overall it was a great trip that I would highly recommend for a getaway ski vacation. Cool mountain with a ton of terrain geared towards whatever your expertise is. If you want trees, you can find tress. If you want groomers/blues, they have that as well.

I’ve been in deep snowfall. I ridden steep lines.
But I had to find them both.

The CAT served up the steep and deep for eight hours on a platter.

All time for me.

Incredible journal. Thanks for posting!

I love Jackson. My #2 resort in North America. So many party laps off Bridger Gondola.

EDIT:

Had a buddy who fished the Snake when we rode the hill. He limited out on brown and rainbow trout.

RIP Kevin, aka Uncle Frank.

I can guide all around US North America and help you pretty much anywhere in the States. Ice Coast included! Vermont is beautiful.

Anyway, I’d love to help you for your 40th. No charge, as this is TD.

I’d suggest Solden Austria for a 40th but

My top 4 in North America are:

Big Sky
Jackson
Snowbird
Mammoth

Just let me know.
