You can ride the train to winter park January- March from Denver. It just runs on select days & times. You avoid I-70 traffic if you’re flexible with your dates. Google winter park express train.

Snowmass is a great resort, huge amount of terrain and lots of variety. I’m not sure how it’s set up for beginners, but based on its size, it should be fine. You also have Buttermilk down the road which is supposed to be more beginner oriented (although I’ve never been). Aspen and Aspen Highlands are also down the road, but those are NOT beginner friendly.

I think it’s a great choice and you can always head into Aspen in the evenings for dinners, etc.

Breck tomorrow for some top to bottom skiing already

Got a medallion for Copper on Monday too.

Love having so much PTO to burn before the end of the year.

Snowmass is awesome. There is a free trolley that runs between there and Aspen...another awesome town.

No shortage of great food, cozy bars, and cougar dens.

Go and please come back with a trip report!

Hey Coloradoag or anyone else...in Breck, does a peak 8 ski school lift ticket give you access to the snowflake lift? I’m looking at a place next door to snowflake and would be ideal to hop on thatbto school at peak 8 rather than bus around.

Thanks

Looks like you’ll check in at Peak 8 base.

I’m jealous! I will be there on the 12th getting the wife schooled. I’ve never been to breck and looking forward to it.

I figured as much on having to bus it to peak 8 base and I’m sure we can manage. Are you at Tyga?

You have a great location. Once she can get around, your position on Snowflake, with Four O’clock at you back, makes for a perfect stay.

Father in law and I hit Keystone today. Had a great time. No lines, skiing was good, good weather. Skied straight from opening to 230 with no stops. I’m pooped.

Breck or Park City for 5 days over New Years? Ive been to Breck several times, and PC once about six years ago. Reason I’m narrowing to these two is we have lodging we can leverage.

Which would you all pick?

Im trying to plan a surprise ski trip for just my wife and I. We have never been skiing before and I have no idea what Im looking at. Im thinking we are going to head to Colorado but not sure where... I'd like some place set up for beginners with good instructors... and I know my wife will want swanky restaurants and bars. Help?

Breckenridge Ski School at Peak 8. They can do anything you need there.

Fly into Denver and rent an AWD SUV It's a very easy 90 mile drive west to Breck . Have fun.

Crested Butte is a great place for beginners. The ski school is excellent and lots of easier trails. In my opinion, it is a lot less crowded also. As for the "swanky" spots, if you mean real high end fancy places, it probably would not impress. If you are looking for quality and "quaintness", you'd be more than satisfied.
