YouTube tv just upped their price significantly

Just flipped on my app and was greeted with a notification that YouTube TV is adding HGTV, Discovery channel, TLC and some other channels. Cool. Don't really watch those but whatever.
Then the notice goes on to say that my price will go up to 49.99/month starting in May. What the frick? Can I skip all the new content and keep my current price?
I knew I probably wouldn't be able to keep my 35/month price forever, but damn this sucks. 180 more dollars a year for zero added value (for me).

Wow that’s really disappointing. I’m with you. I don’t want these channels. They should give an option

Basically the reason why YouTube TV was so successful was they offered the most popular channels for significantly less than traditional cable.
They just added one popular channel (hgtv) and a bunch of filler for what comes out to a 43% price increase, bringing it much closer in price to traditional cable.
Seems like they just pissed away their major competitive advantage.

Agreed. I’m most likely headed back to sling and getting an antenna for locals

I cancelled Vue when they did this. They forced me to go full cord cutter.

Well it's worth it to me...I was subsidizing youtube tv with philo just for those channels

Truly don't understand this move. Obviously I'm not privvy to Google's corporate strategy, but I would think continuing to snuff out traditional cable and collecting that sweet sweet (and very valuable) data on its users would be much more important than a $15/month price increase and subsequent exodus of current users.

I just don’t understand why they couldn’t add it as an add on package seems like that would make everyone happy

I’m really not liking this, was paying 35 dollars a month for everything I needed . This is BS

Was only a matter of time before the streaming services started adding more channels and increasing their monthly fees. Getting closer and closer to regular cable every day.

Did Hulu TV trial. Was nice, but didn't use often enough to justify $39.99 a month.

I started out with Sony Vue paying $30.00(?) a month..I got rid of it with their first rate hick..Now that same package is $50.00..

The difference is philo had more than just the channels they added, right? Pretty sure it also had Hallmark channels, Comedy Central, Paramount network... Not that I care that much, but for the difference in price between 35-50... philo did at least add in a reasonable amount of content for the $16 upcharge? Definitely see this as irritating, as my wife will likely still want Philo for a few months out of the year anyways (she loves her some Hallmark Christmas movies).

Directv now did a price increase and are discontinuing the package I subscribed to but are letting you keep it if you already have it. Talk about a good way to lock someone into sticking with you. I wouldn’t want any of the other packages and don’t want to lose this one.

Cox has 300mb, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime and Stars, and home automation for $140 a month after all taxes etc. Locked in for 2 years, Temped to dump 1gb fiber and day one DTVN deal
Comes with a DVR too ..
This is a new customer deal which I am since I dumped them 2 years ago.
Very tempted by the devil for a 2 year deal ..

Charter here has a similar deal I've been pondering moving to. Can you stream anywhere with a Charter app or account or something? That is one thing I really like about DTVNow - being able to stream at the office.

It’s a DVR box, extra mini’s are $5 a month but I don’t need it. Kiddo does not even watch TV and other TV’s just need OTA and streaming.

No but don’t think I need it ..per other post.
