For anybody that didn’t already have the 4k option, are y’all seeing the $4.99 price if you go to add it, or $9.99? It says it’ll be $4.99 for a year in the email, but only shows $9.99 for me.

First price increase in almost 3 years. Big increase but I guess it's better than increasing the price ~$3/month every year.

At that price, regular cable looks competitive at that price.

quote:Yes. You and a close buddy split cost. You can set up a family group and invite others to have their own log-in.
This is getting ridiculous. Was $35 when I signed up. Are there better options these days?
Whichever home is set up, be sure to visit it every couple of months so the system thinks you are home.

Yes. When I go to add, it gives me a 30 day free trial, $4.99 a month for 12 months, then $9.99.

The problem is channel creep. Most people only watch a handful of channels, but content owners force bundle their crap channels with their top tier channels.
At this point, people need to shift their mindset from “pay for TV” to “pay for the content I want”. Before I just killed YTTV, we were really only watching a couple of shows. But, inertia is a hell of a drug. I’ve now added a couple of a la carte streaming channels. Is YTTV a “better value”? Of course. But I’m now paying like $50 less per month to get the exact same functionality as what I was actually using.
The TV space is starting to remind me of the credit card space. If you want best value, you have to be willing to shift things around consistently.

For ala carte I want the four locals (I can get OTA, except that the line between the FOX tower and my antenna is occasionally interrupted by aircraft landing on one particular landing strip) plus ESPN and a way to record it. Everything else I want is other streaming services that I get with Amazon Prime and free from T-Mobile (Netflix), so, yeah...
tell me how to get all the ESPN channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN, SEC Network) w/o a streaming cable TV service like Hulu or YTTV.

Not terribly easy but possible:
HDHR (and you can find one cheaper, but this is the current “flagship” For what you’re trying to accomplish and wouldn’t require upgrade when ATSC 3.0/4k OTA comes around)
ESPN+ subscription
Dedicated computer that’s always on. This one would have more than enough horsepower. You can add storage as desired- it’s cheap (like $130ish for an 8tb external)
Now the fun part:
Pay ChannelsDVR $8/m or $80/y, and use this guy’s method to scrape the streams into your channels guide. It will look/feel like a regular TV guide, but you may have a few headaches along the setup process.

Am I looking at it right that the only things they have in 4k are NBA games and a few random shitty reality/documentary shows?

That's why I have never added it. The 4k options are too limited.

I'm willing to pay it, outside of sling nothing is cheaper.

have they ever polled their customers?
Yeah.
They didn't like that 99.9% wanted a la carte service.

Cable companies are going streaming too so you don't pay equipment fees.
Posted on 3/24/23 at 9:54 pm to Clint Torres
I spent 45 minutes on the phone repeating to a representative that I wanted to cancel my cable tv. I’ll never again deal with a company that I can’t simply pause or cancel a subscription by a click of a button on a website.

The update said it's the first increase in 3 years.
