I'm in the middle of doing some updates to my 1st floor and one of them is redoing the fireplace surround. However before I do this I need to run cables from above the fireplace mantle (where my TV is mounted) to the floor on the right of my fireplace where I have my receiver. Currently there is 2 HDMIs, a coax, and 2 speaker wires ran there. What other wires would you all suggest be there? 1-2 Cat6 and an optical cable? Ideally I will see if I can put in a piece of flexible conduit with a sting for future cables.

I have my tv mounted above fireplace as well and was fortunate to have my router/modem come in there as well. Having the ability to go Ethernet cables directly from smart tv’s, rokus, Apple TV’s etc can make a huge difference when streaming.
Maybe think that while you’re remodeling.

I had the advantage of setting up how I run cables to my tv that is above the fireplace while my house was being built.

I was able to run 2 inch pvc from behind the tv down to the built in cabinet that has all the equipment.

Definitely recommend running conduit. The reason I went with 2 inch is because of the end connectors on some cables.

To be honest the only way you be covered is to run cables for every connector that exists on your TV.

Murphy's law says the one you didn't pull will ultimately be the one you need most.

You can run just about anything over CAT so having extras of those is most important.

Unless you buy a Samsung with a one connect box. You would need to pull that cable.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have plenty of Cat6 so I will run 2-3 there along with an optical cable. If their is enough room I'll try to put 2" conduit w/o sharp bends. I don't plan on getting a Samsung with their proprietary connector but the extra conduit space would be nice.

you dont think he'll ever upgrade to a different tv and need to run cables?

..or are you assuming he will always buy samsungs with this input?

It appeared that the suggestion was an in addition suggestion if he purchases that type of TV. The OP already has a list of what he wants to pull. He was asking for what else.

This. And leave a pull rope in there to add new wire.
