Why is apple forcing this latest update so hard?

Just tried to open an app I use daily and a full screen pop up from apple says “this app cannot be use until you update software”. Big cushy button at the bottom saying “update now”. A less savvy person would hit the button thinking it was just for the one app. Then the entire phone software update would begin.

It’s bad enough I get weekly alerts trying to force an update. They try to trick you into entering password. The only existing is “remind me later”. If you give the password it irrevocably begins the update that you literally just declined.

Also, what ever happened to people jail-breaking their iPhone so they can use their device as they see fit?

They're at war. Apple's new privacy requirements mean users have to OPT-IN to data mining for each app. It's getting ugly.

Apple's PR campaign with ATT is masterful. "We define privacy as X, and if you dont agree with X, you are hostile to privacy!" It has put Facebook and Google in impossible positions

ATT = “app tracking transparency” aka the new update being forced upon all app developers

This article does a good job outlining what Apple is trying to do LINK

That’s a very interesting article. I didn’t know there was that battle going on behind the scenes.

Apple has had enough of some of these developers bullshite data harvesting methods.

Is there evidence that they sell our data? With them we are not the product. Yet.

Nothing would surprise me but can you provide evidence that what I said is wrong?

Yeah, Facebook was threatening some AntiTrust lawsuit against Apple. I think Zuck backed off though.

I have Apple and Google products and I don't know which is actually better at privacy TODAY. Previously, definitely Apple as Google was mainly data mining. Google still does that but at least now they sell devices (Nest Products mainly but that's a lot of items from smoke alarms, cameras, thermostats, etc).

I use iPhone, apple watch, ipads, etc but I'm pretty sure Apple knows just as much about me as Google. I'm not sure I trust one or the other anymore but that's just life now. Trust seems fickle and will go with the wind in the future. Is it just me?

TLDR version: 5-10 years ago Apple > Google at privacy. In 2020-2021, Apple = Google in terms of privacy.

I don’t have Facebook. It was just a boring little Soduku app. Apple was trying to trick me into downloading the software update by making it seem like it was an update for the app.

I'm good with it. Apple gets my data either way so fewer people getting my data is good.

The problem is, is that yes, they are hurting Facebook but they are also hurting small businesses. These businesses need that data to successfully market. The ATT makes it impossible to measure returns on advertising campaigns for mobile apps and it also creates problems downstream when they go to create look a like audiences.

Tough shite, if you're business is based on data mining you're part of the problem.
