Why do cellphones come in such crap colors?

Why can't they make them in a bright red, not that muted crap Samsung had last year. Or a hunter orange. Dark Blue would be nice . Oneplus has had some nice marbled colors. Hell, I'm sure girls would go for a hot pink. Just boring boring boring.

I dont know why phone makers provide any colors anymore. Just get a case of whatever color you want.

I have no idea what color my current phone is, or any phone before that.
Who carries around a phone that isn't in some kind of protective case?

I'd be getting a new screen or phone every 6 months without a case.

I'd love to go without a case, but they refuse to make a phone with any grip. I wish they'd just do a rubberized back instead of all this glass.

People who don’t want to add weight and bulk while trapping heat that reduced the performance of the expensive computer they carry around?

I have a bumper case on my 14 Pro, only because the camera lenses are so big. Haven’t used a case since my iPhone 3G.

I buy whatever case color is on discount at the time, you know, the once highly marketed but now passe "in" thing. It's just going into a case for protection and phones are expensive enough to scoop up ALL available discounts a buyer can find.

While I’m not above that kind of flexing, it’s more of a flex that I’m not a child and have never, not once, so much as cracked one of the screens. I have them stacked in a drawer somewhere with hardly a scuff on them

This hurts.
I cracked my phone recently. Dropped the thing a 100 times and hadn't cracked yet.
First leg on way to Japan, not 10 minutes into flight my phone slides off my lap onto the floor. Hit just right.
Oh well.

I agree with the poster who mentioned the lack of grippiness. That's all I really care about. I have personally never cracked a screen nor really damaged beyond a scratch any phone I've ever had. But it's almost like they make them for the express purpose of slipping out of your hands if you have no case.

That’s ok. Processors will lower their voltage in an effort to reduce heat production if they reach a certain temperature. Modern phones do not have active cooling. They use passive cooling, with the entire case being the heat sink. Heat sinks work by having a fluid (whether liquid, or in this case, atmosphere) pass over the heat sink to transfer heat away from the heat sink, allowing it to draw away more heat. If air can’t move over the case, heat can’t move away, which means the heat sink will saturate, which means it can’t cool the chip anymore. The only way the chip can compensate is by lowering voltage, and therefore clock speeds, to produce less heat.
That’s just physics.
Now, for people who don’t use their phones to do anything more than talk, text, and browse the internet, that’s not really a problem, as you can do all of those things at a fraction of the power the chip normally draws. But the next time you hear someone complaining about their phone being “slow all of a sudden”, look to see if they have a case. If they do, if they took it off, I guarantee the metal of their phone will be extremely hot.

$20 says it caught one of the metal seat tracks just right. That’s just shite fricking luck

I've cracked screens with a case on several times

That was my theory too.
Cracked screen mocked me the whole time. The dichotomy between my phone and the screens of Tokyo taunted me.

You (presumably, I don’t know what kind of phone you have) purchased a phone with a SOC capable of taking and editing 4k video, streaming media, mild to moderate gaming, etc, etc. It’s obviously up to you what you use it for, but that’s separate and apart from what it was designed to do, which is what you actually paid for, regardless of whether you use that functionality.

Could you not find a local shop to swap out your screen? shite would have driven me insane haha.
