Been hanging onto my 5s. It does what I need it to. Well 3g is going away so need to upgrade. I want to stay with iPhone. Don’t want to spend $1000 for a 13.

What do you recommend?

I'd purchase a model that includes 5G. I think that may be the iPhone 12?

MY ac guy just got the 13 and hates it. Says can’t even get 5g. I realize he may not be tech savvy.

Like I said don’t want to pay $1000 for a 13. 12 isn’t much cheaper but thanks for the response. My two girls have the 11.

I upgraded from the 5S to the SE ~14 months ago and it does every thing I need it to. It has the internals of the 11 inside the 8 shell (also has the home button unlike the 11)

Wife has the 11 and seems to really like it.

Make sure you spend a good but of time logged in to your verizon account shopping....i'm about to get 2 'free' 13's by trading in an 8 and a 7-deal wasnt really advertised-i had to chat and then go through adding it to my cart and all.

I got a 12 mini at Best Buy a few months ago for $499 - that was before the 13 was introduced.

Have you called in to see your options? Lots of accounts have promos to make that 13 way less than $1000

How tf do people hang onto phones for this long? You’ve gotta be charging that thing 3 times a day.

I got a 13 pro max and charge it every other night—and that’s with like 4 hours daily screen time (I work at a plant, you know how that goes). I get a new one every other year and usually sell the old one for about $500.

Also when people say “it does what I need it to”—why wouldn’t you want it to do that, but 10x faster? Idk, it’s just 100% worth it to me to always have a faster, longer lasting (battery) phone. I guess it just depends on your lifestyle/job.

Yea, I work in IT and use my phone daily for probably 3+ hours a day. To me, spending 1000+ dollars sucks but if you average that out for 2 years (730days) that's not much more than 2dollars a day. I easily get 2dollars a day out of my phone.

I have the 12pro max, wife has 13pro - biggest difference is a couple of camera features the wife uses with the kids. If you don't take pictures, just get the 11pro or 11pro max.

Also, do you have to have an iphone? The new Google Pixel looks to be a pretty solid phone.

I AM going to do so today. Been looking online for the deals so far. My phone is too old to get any money on turning it in.

Yes battery life sucks but like I said I use it mainly for a few apps and take pictures and check my email. Also text a lot. I guess my main fear is I lose everything. I am staying with Verizon. I know I just need to back up my old phone to my WiFi and then when I connect to my Apple account with my new phone everything should come over. Just don’t know what will and what wont.

If you backup to icloud and you have your old phone, the transition to new phone is absolutely easy as can be. My wife went from an iphone 8 to 13pro just a few months ago and it takes like 30 mins. It ports all your old apps and settings in from old phone/icloud and makes this seemless.

Android/google has been getting better with this the last few years too.

SE will be more than enough for your needs. Likely can get for under $300.

I have an account with Apple where I pay $3 a month for them to back everything up. Anything special I need to do other than connecting to my WiFi when backing up to iCloud?

Thanks for your help.

If you keep them for years then get the newest you can afford so you won’t have to get a new one for another 10 years

I went from the 5 to the SE about 6 months ago and like it. Same size, still has the home button but with a faster processor and a better camera. Physically they are identical. I know there are iPhones that are faster and have better optics but it more than serves my needs. One downside is that it doesn't get 5G but the 2022 model SE's will, I believe.
