Don't understand if the data is in Icloud why they can't just reset the account password.

Did you even read the article you linked? They basically said that for 48 hours using the suspects the fingerprint to unlock the phone with TouchID would still work, something not protected by the 5th Amendment. I assume they wanted the Police to go that route so they wouldn't get negative press when they couldn't help later. Apple and Google have both gone with end to end encryption so they can say "Sorry, we'd love to help but just aren't able to."

Do you expect measured comprehension from CAD when there's an opportunity to Apple bash?

The situation demanded individual threads in at least two groups!

Apple was just doing what it usually does in the San Bernardino case, maybe they learned from it?

They did catch a shite ton of negative press for that.

Apple has always complied with law enforcement warrants for iCloud data.
Apple has always provided technical assistance to law enforcement.
What Apple did not do, and is still not doing now to the best of our knowledge, is creating tools for the FBI's use for breaking into iPhones nor are they building in backdoors in encryption technology for the U.S. gov't's use. That's the "help" the FBI wanted in the San Bernardino case.
The media spun that story as "Apple won't help FBI get into mass murderer's phone." This press release by Apple is Apple's attempt to get ahead of the media and say, "Hey, we wanna help the FBI get info on a mass murderer!"
Apple's position hasn't changed, but of course CAD reads a poorly written article on Engadget and now all of a sudden it's "Apple's a liar and has a backdoor"

Just reading the article Cad, they mentioned ICloud
“Officials will now have to serve Apple with a court order to be able to get their hands on his iCloud data”
