What’s the best way to save photos and get them off my phone? Not Amazon or Google

Have about 5,000.
Amazon takes too long, my phone has to be open and their app always crashes.
iCloud, I’m not paying for and just don’t want it.
I’d prefer to put on laptop but it seems like the laptop can only import 5 to 10 pictures at a time to the thumb drive. Takes forever

Onedrive works well for me. I have office 365 family subscription that give the whole family 1TB each.

I don’t want to pay for iCloud and I want my photos at home and secure not floating out on the web.

why not plug your phone to your computer and copy the files over. Even at USB 2.0 speeds it shouldnt take but a few minutes to copy that many files over.

Then this is your answer...

Also, unless you have solid backups of your laptop, then when it dies kiss your photos goodbye unless you have them in the cloud.

This is what we’ve always done but now it takes like 3-4 minutes for 10 or so pictures. Maybe it’s because our laptop got struck by lightning

I have a desktop with 2 drives I have in raid 0. I've exposed those drives as a network share. I have this drive backed up online using Backblaze.
I have android phone, I use CX file explorer to mass transfer my pictures to the network share. Just have to select the pictures and copy paste.

Know your audience. OP likely lost you after "desktop."
