Tech board may be a better place for this.

Try the soup kitchen, ya poor.
But a non OT answer is Target right now. Great deals on 50-60 inches under $600.

Just got a Hisense 4K smart tv for $400 yesterday. I like it except for the fact that I can’t get amazon video app for it. Other than that the picture looks great

Go get a TCL from Costco.

Subtle "I have a groundskeeper" brag.

If he wants the BEST 55” tv for $500, a TCL 6 series would fit the bill
LINK
If he wants the best value, a 55” TCL 4 series isn’t bad for $285 at Costco. Drop another $30 there and you get 5 years of warranty on it

You're about 4 minutes late with that one.

Whats the difference between the 4 and 6 series?

A couple reviews i have read say that the TCL tvs may blurr slightly during sporting events. This would be a definite deal breaker for me.
Also no number pad on the remote? So I have to scroll through every channel everytime?
What about Samsungs?

Samsung has some better TVs but not for $500
The 6 series TCL would be better than comparable priced Samsungs

Costco sells 5 series not 4. 4 series are at Walmart.

Is there a particular reason you want a Smart TV? I don't know how long you plan to keep your TV, but I think the "smart" end of a smart TV would show its age long before the screen does. I'd get the best TV screen I could get in your budget range and then just spend $30-$40 extra on a Roku or Fire stick.
