I have the same concern. As a Blackberry user, I'm seriously worried about the switch to Android. My Blackberrys play FLAC files right out of the box and Android needs me to go to the Google Play store and PAY to accomplish the same thing. It's sad.
No you don't. FLAC has been supported natively since 3.1. That's been supported for a very long time (3.1 was released in 2011). Even if it wasn't, there are free apps that will play those files.
Natively supported media formats
Free app that supports FLAC

no, no thats not correct.
install 'google music' on your PC. FREE
point it to your music folder (which presumably contains both mp3s and FLAC) FREE
*wait for an hour* FREE
your music is now available anywhere you are in the known universe if there is any type of digital device nearby be it a PC, Mac, tablet, iPhone, smart TV or your android phone with zero additional steps. FREE
(let me repeat that again: your music is now available anywhere you are in the known universe if there is any type of digital device nearby be it a PC, Mac, tablet, iPhone, smart TV or your android phone with zero additional steps. FREE)
yeah i know, it transcodes your FLAC to shitty 320kbps which you know..sounds awful. FREE
good news is you can still play those as FLAC locally! FREE

I remember reading that I would have to change system settings and delete some stuff. Hmmm. So I saw a few versions, which one is recommended?
Me too. I had v4a waaay back when it first came out, but now after looking at all the,"if you have this problem, do this" talk, I wonder if its not more headache than it is worth. I'll flash the 5.5 beats and hope I dont have issues with my ROM or kernel.
Does it make much difference with Bluetooth audio? I dont use headphones ever. What about the front facing speakers? Any difference there?

I did notice a huge difference. I got done nor umph out of the Bluetooth car audio
Everything is running smooth also. The Google play equalizer sucked. It would have a brief second of changing the settings if you skipped to another song

Flashed 5.5 but once reboot finished there is no viper app anywhere. Did you have to activate anything? I dont s3e an fx audio controller interface anywhere.

I got an app icon. It's viper something.

I found the file in ES explorer and it looks like it downloaded that music fx installer audio fx remover at the bottom of the downloads instead of atmos 5.5. Thats what i flashed. Wtf?
Gonna try the download off the xda app. Sometimes tapatalk fricks up my downloads.
Thats what it was. Went to xda and it worked. Hope flashing that other file wont frick it up.
Works fine. Now just need to grab some good presets from xda.
