Is it just really advanced Fiber Optics? I'm having trouble understanding the hype behind it.

Fiber to the home offering very high speed internet access at a very competitive price. Google has rolled it out in about a dozen cities with more to come. It's offered in three tiers including a free 5 mbps connection for a one-time installation fee of $300, a gigabit connnection (up and down) for $70 a month and gigabit plus TV for $120 a month.

All I know is the ISPs are scared to death of it, and trying to derail the project by hook or by crook, so it must be pretty good.

No, it's the same glass as always but it doesn't switch over to copper before delivering it's signal to your modem/router. Glass has very, very little resistance compared to copper so the possible speeds are very different.

Baton Rouge came pretty close to getting this. I'm sure it is amazing. The sad part is that I think Google is the precursor to Skynet.

Well since Google already monitors their customers email accounts, I think I would have a hard time using Google as an ISP.

$70/month for a 1 gig connection both up and down. This means you can simultaneously stream 3-4 football games while at the same time watch your favorite porn. And upload video of yourself drinking/masturbating. All in HD. For $70/month.

Everyone is getting monitored. So why not get 1G connection out of it.

True. But not as blatantly as Google.

You have nude pics on gmail, Google has already seen them.

They were storing it on barges but recently abandoned that project, at least in Maine.

False.

That was their very own Cube Project.

If you made it out alive, you got 1 year of free fiber.

What is the difference between this and when companies like charter say they have a fiber network?

Google has the capital to do it and ATT, Comcast and Cox have to be quaking in their boots. It's about time.
