Cox have to be quaking in their boots

Cox is bringing Gigabit speeds, starting now with Phoenix and expanding market-wide through 2016. Supposedly they'll be doubling speeds of the lesser tiers. They won't have to run fiber to the home; they'll just bond more and more channels.

Added some channels yesterday over the phone. Cox mentioned that I'll see doubled speeds by October in the BR-area.

All I know is the ISPs are scared to death of it,

Well, the rich motherfrickers should start trenching fiber themselves instead of worrying about throttling bandwidth and capping downloads and all the retarded shite.

People want it fast, affordable, and not have to worry about limits. If you can't deliver, get the frick out of the way.

Pick any two, classic example.

This really isn't a new concept either. You see it in every area of business. Those in power, don't want to lose it. They don't understand the need for change, they are just fine.

I should say they understand it but it doesn't directly benefit them so they don't want it.

Well since Google already monitors their customers email accounts, I think I would have a hard time using Google as an ISP.

you realize that whoever you use for email monitors your email in the exact same way as google, right? unless you host your own email with your own servers at your own house.

The problem for the traditional ISPs is that they aren't as good at data mining for effective advertising as Google and they never will be. They don't see Google Fiber as disruptive because it's faster, it's disruptive because Google has a completely different business model that will let them charge less. They should be scared, especially with so many people having the "I'm monitored anyway" mind set.

One thing that's lost in the conversation - if it's Google, it will NOT fail, and prospective customers already have a high degree of confidence in them. Also, Google won't allow themselves to get pigeon-holed with the likes of Charter, Comcast and ATT when it comes to customer service. They have too much already at stake.
