Let me begin by saying I am not tech savvy that’s why I’m here for help. I have Eatel for cable so they provided me with a cable modem. They said I wouldn’t need a router because the router was built in. I bought the package that allows for 150mbps download speeds and 50mbps upload speeds. I explained that I had an acre and a half, a 3500sqft house, and a pool house that I’d like to have the signal reach. They said that would be more than enough for my property and it’s not. We stream movies on the Firestick/Netflix, along with cell phones and the kids tablets. We need something that doesn’t drop signals, has more speed, and reaches throughout the property.

Do I need another router or an extender? What would you recommend? Thank you for your help

If you just want plug and play get a 3 eero package.

I am a ubiquiti fan boy for a more robust setup, but you likely do not need this. If there is great distance between structures you should run a cat 5/6 with hardwired AP or directional antenna (again ubiquiti)

Running an outdoor rated cat5/6 cable in buried 3/4 conduit to pool house/ancillary structure is something that takes a couple of hours and pays huge dividends.

Thanks for the reply. I think the eero package is what I need. The cable modem/router is in the far corner of my house, in the office, and the house isn’t hardwired for Ethernet. Plus it says I can add additional units to reach the garage and pool house. I appreciate the feedback

Definitely need a mesh system. I have Google Wifi for a ~3,000 square foot house and haven't had an issue with diminished signal anywhere inside or outside the house(yard and deck) in the 3 months I've had it.

I chose Google because it was the cheapest of the options out there.

Any how y’all have experience or have an opinion about the Luma mesh network?

Do you have to rent the modem/wifi from them?

I would get my own router and request just a modem only.

I have tried extenders before, but I really prefer just a really nice router. I have like a $200 nighthawk and it is so much better.

Those modem/router combos from cable companies are typically not great with extension or passing through walls.

The 3 eero package looks like an easy solution to try though.

Your best bet is going to be buy another good router and run Ethernet to that side of the house. Cable companies constantly lie about the WiFi coverage capabilities as well as falsely recommend modem/router duos. They’re not effective. Don’t even bother with the extenders. No good.

One more, possibly, two routers should do the trick.

If you go the router route it would help to google bridging them to your main router. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. Hardest part is running Ethernet. Geek squad could probably do it for 150-250 bucks but it’s not hard to do yourself with a snake tool.

The thing with Eatel is you don’t need the modem at all unless you have TV service with them.

I would use the pass through feature and go straight to the mesh router.

(Assuming it’s one of those crappy Pace boxes)
