Unlocking i phone

Wife’s company closed so they gave her the company phone she had been issued. In the chaos during the shutdown no one took time to get the phone unlocked (ATT).
We have tried to get it unlocked several times both on line and through calls to ATT customer service without success. Latest attempt they wanted the 4 digit passcode for the phone which we do not have. Phone is paid off and was in ATT service for couple of years so met their normal requirements to unlock.
Seem stymied now - I was going to replace my old 2020 SE with this phone (i phone 14 pro). Anyone have any tips or ideas on how tobget this done ?

In the cellular world unlocking a phone means you can move an att phone to t-mobile. What are you attempting to do? If you reset the phone or erase it and you don't have the password to the apple ID used on it then you won't be able to use it.

We use Consumer Cellular. Had used ATT in the past but changed due to cost savings. So trying to unlock so i can activate on CC

If you know the icloud password for the account on the phone then do a factory reset to clear the unclock code.

I don’t think we have that either but will check. Problem at this point seems to be ATT and not Apple but I maybe confused. Thanks for the input

Are you going into an AT&T store, or trying over the phone? There may be lower barriers to fraud/stolen phone prevention when they can get you on camera, check a DL, etc. in person. I don't know for sure, but you might have a bit more wiggle room in person there or at an Apple store.
She could also try to find one of the IT helpdesk former colleagues on LinkedIn and get the needed code.

Just to clarify, are they asking you for the screen unlock code, and you don't have that? Or for the account pin for the carrier unlock? If it's the account pin you'd have to get that from someone at the company probably IT or sys admin

ATT isn't the issue. You need access to the phone to do what you want to do.

I can access the phone and had actually transferred my old data to it at one point but didn’t do a factory reset on it. So we can open the phone and do anything except get on a cell network and make calls. Their old ATT account was closed and we can’t unlock it to use another carrier
