This issue with SMS messages “failing to send” is beyond ridiculous

Brand new iPhone 12 and I get a failed delivery message 3 out of 4 times.
WTF is the deal here?

I heard something similar was happening with Android 11 so I'm staying away for now

I've started having similar situation with my Pixel 3. Only happens if I exit the text while in "sending" mode.

Turn off 5G. Verizon Support admits its 5G network isn't built out yet -- despite what their online coverage map says -- and auto-switching between 4G and 5G is causing a lot of problems.
Out of the box, the iPhone 12 has 5G enabled. To switch to 4G-LTE (Verizon just calls it “LTE” now), you go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data — and switch that to “LTE”. Then, toggle Airplane Mode on/off.
This should improve your situation.

iPhone 12 Pro on ATT and zero issues with iMessage. I don’t know anyone with and Android so no idea if SMS is working or not.
