I lurk here and rarely post (if ever). But I always am able to get tons of answers just by searching this forum.

You guys are full of information in an area I know NOTHING about.

I know medicine, woodworking, and mechanical things (cars and motorcycles).

I know NADA about technology.

But I was browsing the topics and saw the discussion on the Amazon Fire stick and Kodi. Ordered it from Prime (on Prime day for 24.99) and downloaded Kodi.

This thing is AWESOME!

I am mostly running the Exodus program but it has tons of others on it. I am sure I will find more benefits in the near future.

Just wanted to say thanks from a routine lurker. Your "talking out loud" on a message board helps others in ways you never imagined.

Yeah, I just went to Kodi as a supplemental option on a Fire Stick after this prime sale as well.

I can offer a few noob tips. The "wake" issue - if you get it - switching away on the input side or having it sleep and not wake up - I remedied that by moving it to a non-4k HDMI port and locking the resolution to 1080p60. For a Fire Stick, keep the build minimal if you go with a custom build. I think just doing the Exodus add on (all I have on my desktop computer, for example) will do fine.

We went with a Wookie community build (Mega's Wookie Build) which was specifically recommended for a Fire Stick - you don't want to overload the hardware, particularly with stuff you're not going to use. I'm not finding as many streaming options, yet, but primarily I wanted to justify dropping Hulu and, perhaps, cable down to the bare minimum. We're going to experiment with streaming solutions this football season and, perhaps, get away from cable within a year or so.

I have had a somewhat love/hate relationship with my fire stick/kodi. Tons of options to watch, but a lot of buffering and bad links.

Got the Amazon Fire TV Box this past Prime Day (for 69.99) so that i could run a hard line to it and hopefully use it more efficiently. Even with the hard line, buffering continues to be an issue.

I know some of this is to be expected and i do try other links when i get into these trouble spots, but the execution of the GUI is somewhat lacking. No way to back out to the main screen without hitting the back button a bunch of times, or accidentally hitting the back button while playing a video i.e. type issues.

It really is a shame that it doesn't work better because i dp think it's the future of television.

I know I know........I got what I paid for.....................

If I could get Exodus to work on Roku, this wouldn't even be a discussion - EVERY box maker should get Roku to design their GUI for them.

Even my wifi Roku TV and 3 models are head and shoulders ahead of Fire Stick (although that's not completely fair, as that's more hardware than the Stick - Fire TV would be more apples to apples).

Content providers are working night and day to defeat Kodi/Exodus/SALTS, etc. - So, it may only be around for a short window of time.

What is your ISP? What speed are you paying them for? How many connections are running/streaming at once? It is likely NOT your firestick or Fire TV causing the buffering

I use Eatel and pay for 50MB/s service. At one time I noticed I was buffering a lot. Our ISP gives us an ethernet jack to connect to their fiber service. I directly connected a laptop to the jack and ran a Speedtest finding I was only getting 25MB/s.

One call to Eatel and they replaced the fiber termination card on the side of my house. I have been running a clean 50MB/s and have been buffer free for over a year now.

I just added Kodi to a FireStick last night. I have not used Kodi yet but was very impressed with the way Amazon Prime Video is embedded into the stick's GUI.

Watched the first episode of Mr. Robot last night...I may have a new favorite show

i do also have a Roku and absolutely love it. The KODI diversion was just for all the random stuff you can't find on netflix, HBO go, showtime, starz, etc.......

You are right, if Roku were allowed to design the interface for KODI, cable companies would be out of business already........

I've had cox preferred for years. I know that between my son's laptop, my wife's iPad, all of our phones, that it runs up the bandwidth pretty good but it shouldn't be that bad

I don't know if you knew this or not but there are apps that allow you to control your Kodi on your phone! You can browse the stuff on your phone and go straight to it on Kodi. Yatzee or whatever its called and Kore are some of them. I have only recently found them.

I have often thought that if I could find a good search engine for KODI, it would great improve my experience. I'll check these out!

Any abilities to DVR live tv?

I am ready to cut the cord. I pay 75 a month for internet at 185 for dtv. ridiculous.

However, I don't want to miss any saints or tigers games, and I need to be able to record them.

For this reason, I am leaning towards a tivo bolt system.

Anyone have any better recommendations?

Ive been using kodi for a couple of years. Exxodus and Sportsdevil for sports are about all I use.......well.....Ccloudtv for BBC and other live english tv. A lot of streams dont work but after using it for a while you figure out what works and what doesnt and it becomes easy.

No..not at all. It'll probably be a local eastern timezone stream, though.
