TCL announces mini-LED 6 series
TCL's new 6-Series TVs rival LG OLED screens at a third of the price

quote:

The LG CX OLED have some seriously affordable competition this year: TCL just announced that its new 6-Series QLED TVs will use Mini-LED technology to offer OLED-level contrast and cost a third of what LG's 2020 CX OLED does.

What we didn't know, however, is that besides the new Mini-LED technology that replaces the traditional LED backlight, TCL has redesigned the legs so that you can neatly hide HDMI cables and that the 6-Series will be the world’s first TV with THX Certified Game Mode that utilizes the 120Hz panel, Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Game Mode to enable smoother gameplay on consoles that support 120 fps gameplay – i.e. the Xbox Series X and PS5.

So how much does it cost? According to information from TCL today, the 6-Series will be available in the same sizes as last year (55, 65 and 75 inches) and it starts at just $649 for the 55-inch TCL 55R635. The step-up TCL 65R635 will only set you back $899.99 and the monstrous 75-inch TCL 75R635 only comes out to be $1,399.99.

china is asshoe

Unlike OLED that tops out around 700 nits of peak brightness, these new Mini-LED TVs would offer a peak brightness of above 1,000 nits - making them an even better option for watching HDR content and better suited for daytime viewing than an OLED TV.

but TCL makes a damn good budget tv

re: TCL announces mini-LED 6 series
pricing is insane and the last 2 6-series were introduced at similar retail prices so fuuuuuuuuuuuuck! these will likely be even cheaper at best buy and costco than the MSRP being listed.

The 55" says sold out at BestBuy and Wal Mart.

Do y'all think that is accurate or is it just not available for purchase yet?

Only place I see it available for sale currently is Amazon.

I would guess not available yet. Amazon doesn't have the bigger sizes yet either.

Clearing out 2019 6-series, chinavirus likely causing a delay in the rollout of the new models.

Glad I waited to get a second larger TCL. I got my eye on the 75".

Yeah, I think you made a great decision to wait.

I love these TVs so much. Mini-LED is going to be so nice.

I went ahead and got the 55" off Amazon, because it says it will be delivered this Monday. The 65" & 75" are available on BestBuy, but delivery says next month.

I wish I could go bigger, but not sure it would work with my current setup. I wish they would sell these TVs in a 60" model. It would be perfect for my needs.

Where are the 85 and 95" models?

ETA: I told my wife in 2011 that in 10 years we will have a 100" TV. She laughed. I'm determined to hang that smug laugh right next to a huge TV.

re: TCL announces mini-LED 6 series
I have last year's 6 series TCL Roku, and I love it and it got rave reviews or incredible picture quality for the price. Only issue with it is that it's a 60 hz panel, so that some pans for movies filmed in standard 24p can appear choppy, but otherwise the color, contrast, black levels is incredible, and I'm coming from high end but older Panasonic. This latest model with 120hz and mini led qled for similar price is incredible. TCL rocks, and so does Roku.

It will be interesting to see if it has a great picture when viewing from wide angles like the LG OLED and Samsung Q8 and Q9 QLED have. To me that’s what separates those TVs from the rest of the under $2000 TVs.

LCD panels, QLED LCD, will never have wide angle brightness like OLED, but for that's no problem at all if one has a viewing setup where seating is pretty much right in front of screen or slightly off. I can see issue though if you regularly have several viewers who are forced to sit in less than ideal certral area.

That’s gonna happen regardless of the refresh rate. The 120hz may be a bit less erratic (because it displays each frame for an equal amount of time), but those slow pans in movies will always look choppy simply because it’s filmed in 24p. You’ll even see it in a movie theater

Unless you turn the interpolation or motion smoothing feature on. But idk why the hell anyone would want to do that

The samsung q80 & q90 qled look just as good as oled from wide angle and have very little glare. Hope this TCL is like that.

Exactly what I've done with my TCL, called motion smoothing, but set at low. After experimenting I found the low setting was just enough to settle down the jitters but not so much that it caused the dreaded soap opera effect.
