No issues. Also, got it working again. Devs brought in around 50 alpha testers so should be getting rapid improvements with fixing the bugs.

Awesome, try to keep us updated as you go. This one sounds very interesting, and with the pressure being applied by the EU, maybe it has a chance

I still can't believe Apple let's their billion dollar baby to be pimped out like this. It's a huge reason in the US that people stick to iPhones whether you agree with it or not.

After researching this more, no way in hell would I plug my real Apple ID credentials into this, basically handing over your entire account to these people. They will have access to everything. Rather stick to setting up your own server through airmessage or blue bubbles if you want this. I guess if you don’t really use an iCloud account though, they just got your messages and that’s all.

I think the better question is how did Google not have a better messaging strategy for the last decade plus to make a product that could have ended this rivalry? On top of that most of these other messaging apps like Facebook Messenger would probably be niche apps if Google had come up with a better messaging client built in to Android. But like most Google products, they came out with a million different versions and kept switching and killing which app was the app.

I used Android phones for about a decade, and this is spot on.

Thinking about this app as we're trying to send Christmas pics and videos tonight. If i make an apple ID just for this app since i have no Apple products, is there really a downside?

As long as you are sending nothing you care about or if the people you are talking to don’t give a shite who has y’all messages, not really. That iCloud account I would consider hacked and not do anything with it. I would tie a throwaway email to it as well.

Dam, can you link to some of this research you have found? I’m genuinely curious because everything they are claiming is they don’t have access to any of your data and it’s all e2e encrypted

I think it’s based on giving any amount of access to your iCloud account to a third party. If they don’t have access, this doesn’t work. It’s possible that they respect your privacy and don’t break the encryption for the sake of reading what’s inside. If that’s the case, they’ll still be a huge target for a third party to hack and have access to messages.

But it isn’t exactly possible to have end to end encryption without breaking it in the middle on their server. If it were, their server wouldn’t need to exist.

But the questions of:
1) will they read the messages
2) will they sell data from the messages
3) will they attempt to reverse into iCloud accounts

are all fair to ask. And I very much fall on the side of, “yeah. They’re going to sell a lot of stuff.”

Indeed. I think anyone with a shred of objectivity that blindly accepts a company at their promises is incredibly naive at best.

I agree, I’m not blindly accepting anything from them. Which is why I wanted a link to the research he found, so I could look at it for myself. Because right now all I have to go on is what the company promises vs what strangers on a message board claim. And no one on here really seems to know how this system works, it’s all just conjecture

Yeah they’re own encryption, which doesn’t really mean anything. They have to setup some kind Apple device server for this to work on their end like you would do to use blue bubbles or airmessage, be it real Apple devices or some kind of hackintosh setup. They haven’t found some new interesting way to get into iMessage, they are just replicating what others have done where you don’t have to do the server setup on your own end. This is why Apple may not be able to do anything about it unless they restrict their own devices from iMessage. I guess they could start blocking their servers from Apple servers in an endless game of cat and mouse.

I just googled it and found other places where people were discussing how they were accomplishing it.

Definitely worth trying out, just don’t be stupid enough to put an account into it that you care about. For Android people, this isn’t really something they have to worry about as much.

Gotcha,

Did you watch the video the other dude linked above? I don’t know who that YouTuber is, but he shared a lot from direct conversations with the company.

And I agree, if I had an iCloud account with anything on it, I certainly wouldn’t use it, but I would use a burner account with it. But I also operated under the assumption that everything I text or do on my phone is being seen by someone regardless of what apple or google claim
