Starlink question

I live in rural area. Even though att has fiber optics running through my yard, can't access it. Paying 100.00 for viasat and it sucks. Iam looking into getting starlink. Is there anyone here that uses it in a rural area? And if so is it strong enough to go to streaming only. And what type of satellite receiver do I need. I noticed they have several. Thanks.

Going from Viasat to Starlink ins a no brainer. You can order the equipment directly from Starlink or I think they may also be available in some Best Buy locations. At my fishing camp it is strong enought to stream 3 tvs and several cell phones.

I’m in a very rural area and have had Starlink for a little over 2 years. I went from dial up to HughesNet to ViaSat to Starlink. I range anywhere from 20Mbps to 200Mbps with uploads around 15.
We can have any combination of 4-6 TVs, gaming consoles, iPhone/iPads running at one time. I couldn’t consistently stream on ViaSat but have very few issues now. I may buffer once a month or so. Every day around 2-2:30pm I have a short outage of less than a minute. I assume that this is a gap in the satellites.
I’ve kept DirecTV though. I want a little more consistent high end speed before I let DTV go. I’ve been a customer of theirs since 1995.

I've been on dish for awhile. Between them and viasat, it's costing 270 a month. Att running there stuff through my and neighbors property just for a business down the street is crap. Starlink seems the best deal but start up is pricey.

Pricey but worth it. I use YouTube TV with it and have no issues. Buy in costs are high but as long as it's not causing some signifigant financial burden you will not regret it.

I figured after start up, I should save about 80 a month between Internet and TV bill. Monthly starlink is 134 from what I've seen. Is that about right?

Yeah sounds right. SL is a proper internet connection. Unless you are the Brady bunch with a shite load of people in the house, SL would be worth it even if it wasn't saving you a dime just for the QoL improvement over ViaSat.

I've had Starlink at "deer camp" for about three years now. Hell yeah it's worth it. I stream YTTV flawlessly all day long. My boy even brought his XBox and gamed with his friends online while I was streaming.
Just buy the standard startup kit for $349. It comes with everything you need. Setup is absurdly easy.

You've shared this picture here before right? Or am I remembering another poster. I still got a good chuckle and seeing how you accomplished the installation seeing this again.

Do it. It's the best option for rural unless you get the fiber.

Yeah, I've shared this pic on here before.
I can neither confirm or deny that an extension ladder in my tractor's bucket, deer loc on stand climbing sticks, and a lineman's belt were used to accomplish this install.

I remember your camp pics from my days on the waiting list

Very rural. No wired internet options. Starlink has been great for us. A clear view of the northern sky is important. I mounted the dish on the peak of our roof.

Anyone use the “rv” setup? Putting it at lake house and only there about 2-3 weekends a month. Kid would use his gaming console and streaming a couple tvs. Wondering if the 50gb would be enough

Streaming and gaming 2-3 times per month is probably going to go over 50gb, especially if he trieds to download a game. Overage is $1 per GB but you can set it up so that SL will stop working once you hit 50gb.
