Built by Sonance

quote:

a leading loudspeaker manufacturer in the smart-home installation channel, is making at least three new products optimized for the new Sonos Amp – an in-wall, in-ceiling, and outdoor speaker, available to the mass market in early 2019.

quote:

The co-branded products will be sold and marketed online by Sonos, but the company says it is not necessarily targeting do-it-yourselfers. “Our goal isn’t to get these into a bunch of consumer hands,” said Sonos director of business development Ryan Taylor, during a press preview last month. “We’re not trying to drive direct sales of in-ceiling speakers.” The two companies worked jointly on the products, with Sonos bringing the “acoustic engineering and software,” according to Taylor, and Sonance providing the “industry expertise.” Sonos, with its big honkin’ speakers, has never been one to blend electronics into a home’s design.

Don’t think CAD is going to like these since it’s just a line of architectural speakers built by a reputable audio company and branded as SONOS. Not plug and play, needs speaker wires. Just a marketing gimmick IMO, Sonance does makes quality speakers but there is no doubt they are leveraging the SONOS name.

I was just looking yesterday at a good place to put a play one under my patio. Wasn’t sure how it would hold up outside. It’d obviously be under cover but still not sure how it’d do.

About time a speaker company realized sonos was the way to go. Multiple avrs are just not practical for most people.

These are designed to be paired with the Sonos Connect amp. That's a stereo amp. It's also about $500-600 (depending on if you want last year's model or this year's replacement). They also can be used with a traditional stereo amp. Apparently there are undisclosed "extra features" that are available when using a Connect amp, but I haven't seen what they are.

May I ask why multiple Sonos Connect amplifiers is a better system than multiple AVRs? Or why one of these is equivalent to an AVR?

I don't think the company makes bad products. I actually kind of like Sonos and think they make some pretty decent gear. I'm just not understanding the point you are making here.

I have had a play 5 under the patio 25ft from our saltwater pool for the last 3-4 years. No issues so far. The insides could be corroding (and probably are) but still works and sounds great.

I simply don't understand why Sonos doesn't have a multi-channel amp in its lineup so all of those Sonos Connects can play through one amp.

Play 1 would work great under a patio. Bring it in during big storms just to be safe. I would get two and set up for stereo in an outdoor setting.

There is a need for that for sure, but they probably don’t b/c they can’t even make a good 2 channel amp. They should partner up with an amp company who knows what they are doing just like they did with Sonance on the speaker side.

I just want to get Beam for my kids playroom. I watch that TV more than any in my house and the TV speakers aren't cutting it.

I couldnt care less what they are doing to appease the masses. Their platform serves my family well.

The beam sounds awesome for what it is and is perfect for that.

They could expand the partnership with Sonance and use a rebadged version of the 12-50.
