why the hell wouldn't it default to 4K or at least 1080p 60fps without having to fool around with it.

4K looks a million percent better than what I've been taking the last 4 months.

Battery life claims and storage capacity (holds up to XX hours of video) likely based on default settings.

it never occurred to me i needed to look into this. i just assume the default settings are set to best quality.

i was noticing on my new 4K display how bad my HD videos looked in comparison to the 12mp photos and then I went to check the settings and sure enough, they were low.

i changed them & took a short UHD video and it looks amazing in comparison.

well at least i found it now instead of 6 months from now.

eta google backs up everything at native resolution from pixels for free so space shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah I thought that was the case, but just a rough example. Next thing you know though someone can’t figure out why they’re internet is slow at home and turns out every time they connect to WiFi, their phone is uploading several 500MB 4K videos.

Unfortunately they probably pick those to lower customer support call numbers. And intermediate and advanced users just don’t call, they google it haha.

This! Same thing even when you buy a DSLR. The settings out of the box are not maxed out either.

A poor assumption, honestly. Google is targeting your average consumer with the Pixel line and is more concerned with battery life than highest quality, generally speaking. "Good enough" with better battery life is optimal for the average user.

That's not the real one. Gotta go to XDA. You can also just root using Magisk and use the Download Module to find it.
