Smart doorbell help for Father's Day

I just spent an hour reading as many threads as I could on review sites and of course Reddit and can't seem to come up with the best camera for my 72-year-old dad who doesn't need all kinds of fancy bells and whistles.
His existing doorbell is wired and I would like to continue using his chime if possible. And we definitely don't want a subscription plan so Ring is out. I think Eufy sounds good but doesn't work with existing chime. May just have to accept.
Any recommendations on just being able to give my dad a smart doorbell that he can see through an app on his phone the last few days or even a week+ that's recorded free on the cloud that uses his existing doorbell wiring?
TIA and Happy Father's Day!

I personally like the Aqara smart home doorbell. I’m invested into the apple ecosystem though so if he has an apple one subscription, go that route. However, it sounds like he probably doesn’t so not sure. Most all require a subscription now a days if you plan to watch any history.

I read some good things about Aqara and some bad. He has a Samsung phone and I got him an Alexa which he barely uses
Eufy seems the best for his situation, I just wished it could work with his chime. Hoping someone else posts another option.

My amcrest is wired, supports existing doorbell chime, and supports local NVR recording.

This is a chime that will recognize the button press on a smart doorbell.
You don’t have to buy the transformer, just splice the transmitter anywhere along the run from doorbell to existing chime / transformer.
Plug in the chime somewhere below

Ring integrates with alexa and uses the existing doorbell chime. You can set the alexa to reply "Someone is at the front door" when the doorbell is pushed (the chime will also ring) and use the alexa to talk to the ring doorbell. Done deal.
Edit: Opps. Missed this part.

Altho at only $5 a month or $50 a year, the subscription on 1 ring device isn't awful. Less than$1 a week.

Agreed, but unless I'm mistaken the Eufy does pretty much everything Ring does, but works with his existing chime and it's free.

I had a Ring at my old house and left it when I moved 6 months ago. I no longer wanted to pay the Ring annual fee. The new place the existing door bell transformer is dead so I didn't want to crawl in the attic to find it and replace.
I bought a Eufy battery powered doorbell that came with a chime you plug into a wall outlet. You have to buy a micro SD card to put in the chime to record the videos. I was skeptical about battery life and recharging. My Eufy app shows I have about 50% battery life left and I installed it 112 days ago. So I should easily get 5+ months on a battery charge. The only activity recorded is when I get a delivery or I go out the front door to check the mailbox. I would guess about 20 recordings a week.
I have no complaints about the Eufy and would recommend it. If you have a lot of activity at the front door you will probably have to charge the battery more often than I do.
You can get one on Amazon for $69 if you check the $30 off coupon box. Another $10 for a micro SD card. So all in for $85 and no subscription is not a bad deal.
Amazon Eufy

Since he has wired doorbell, I just ordered the Eufy S330 for $129.99 on sale. Dual cameras and Delivery Guard which is supposed to be cool. I thought the camera has a built-in SD? Not that big of a deal if we have to buy one, but from what I understand it has 8GB of storage which is about 90 days per Eufy and then it records over itself. My dad won't need more than that.

I have that Eufy, it works great. App is easy to use, your dad shouldn't have a hard time navigating.

I don't have a eufy doorbell (maybe I should?), but I have their smart lock and it's easily one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Which of their smart locks do you have? Have been interested in adding a smart lock and theirs have always intrigued me, since I already have a Eufy doorbell and cameras

reolink also has a comparable model. swap it out and put a jumper in the chime box. really easy

It's a biometric wifi lock with rechargeable battery.
The battery only needs a charge about 3x a year.
Fingerprint lock/unlock is amazing. Also can use a passcode or key.

I have an Aqara lock - the integration is great, I don't like their app, and I think the hardware is pretty unimpressive for a brand trying to position itself as a premium HomeKit maker.
All my stuff is Reolink now, but my most seamless, easy, reliable brand (Ring, Nest, Arlo, some others) has been Eufy. I know there were some privacy issues, but it's the only smart home brand I've used that is consistently frustration-free.

Eufy all day every day.
Local storage.
No subscription needed.
Easy as hell to install.
Works with Alexa.
Works with existing chime.
