Does anyone have a large Plex server they can share with me? I recently repurposed an old laptop and getting into Plex and building my library up with bitorrents. TIA

What is your plex username?

I’d love someone to share one with me too. I’ve got a Nvidia shield that I’d like to start utilizing.

I sent you and Bigperm30 invites to my server title BC.
You will just need to accept and select my server.
My internet lately has been crap though, so I don't know how well it will work. I am trying to get my upload speeds fixed though. Just try it out.
(I will be updating my entire server to a new PC sometime soon though, so if it's down it is only temporary..)

I have a ton of movies, but I can always take requests for anything you want. My internet lately has been crap though, so I don't know how well it will work. I am trying to get my upload speeds fixed though. Just try it out.

What are you running your plex on? I have a large library on back up because I am not sure what to use to run plex independently.

You all like creating a paper trail of copyright infringement?

Added fib and django.
I really don't get people who feel the need to comment like that. Especially someone with hardly any post history.
Really not sure the point of your comment tbh.
Are you trying to fight the good fight against media sharing, because if so you have much larger fish to go after than a few posters on TD looking to share their own personal media collection together. (I assume you never go to a friend's house and watch their content)
Looking over your brief post history, you seem very protective. So perhaps that's your angle.
Plex is wonderful, but do keep in mind they limit your sharing to only 100 users.

Just a regular computer and lots of internal storage actually.

Qnap is a popular choice, but pricey. You can just repurpose an old PC or build a better server for just as much.
My plan is home server down the road but gaming rig for now with a 6TB HD and room to aid and configure into RAID5

Qnap looks expensive. Is all that really worth it?
I mean I just use an i7 pc I built that has great cooling and a ton of internal HDs (8 or 10tb x's 4 or 5 drives)
What would be the benefit of going that route over just using a dedicated PC?

Just means your can turn your PC off and still have the server running. I'm sure there are more technical reasons as well. Freeing up space, memory on the PC.

Biggest reasons typically for investing in a dedicated NAS box vs using a PC tower:
1) purpose built... less "configuration" required (time investment)
2) less resource intensive, meaning lower power consumption... (cost to run over time)
3) Drive capacity... if you really want redundant storage for large data volumes, tough to get a pc tower to take more then 4-5 drives.
I'm sure there are other reasons, but these seem to be some of the consistently biggest reasons I've seen.
I'm with you though, if you can get a tower with sufficient cooling running with enough drives for your use case, it makes more sense to me to have a fully functional PC for most home uses... but there is still a cost...
Typical demand on a 4 bay Qnap box with 4 drives in it:
Compared to a higher end PC with a decent processor and 4 operational drives... probably coming in closer to 200W in heavy throughput and 100W on power save (even if you went 90/10 in favor of power save/idle, you're talking about a pretty substantial difference in power. (avg of about 120W)
~8760 hours in a year * power consumption * local rate for power (probably in kWh, so conversion/decimal slide needed)
Qnap box: Even if I assumed heavy throughput all the time:
40W*8760hrs*.11kWh (price in Georgia) = $38.50 or so to run it for a year
PC tower: assuming *low* peak usage
120W*8760hrs*.11kWh = $115.63 or so to run it for a year
So even giving the PC the benefit there, it's at least $77/year more expensive to run... Probably closer to $100 once you factor sleep/idle in for the NAS box... So you just have to figure out whether that matters for you.

Usenet and Radarr/Sonarr is the best way to build your library.

I just want Plex to sync up with my Movies Anywhere and/or Vudu account so that I can see everything from one interface. I have 500+ in Plex and another 100+ in Vudu and continue to keep building it with 4K content.
How cool would that be?
