What is the easiest way to send and receive faxes using internet or other alternative to a fax machine? Thanks.

Right fax (e-faxes) -let's me send faxes and receive them. I receive them as emails when people fax me. I'm sure there are other services too that doubt require and actual fax machine to work.

I have one client that still faxes. I use Metrofax. I think it costs about $7 a month and allows somewhere between 250-500 pages per month without extra charge and you get a local number to your area code or for $1-$2 more a month i think you can get 800 number. There are a bunch of services out there, some start at around $2/month but I think each page costs you to send and or receive. Do a little research and see which one offers you the best deal based upon the use that you anticipate.
If you just need to send a single fax I think most of these will allow you to sign up for a free 30 day trail. Send what you need and cancel.
Like others said, you will receive an e-mail with the fax. To fax out you scan and then go through the provider and give them the number and they convert the scan from internet to a fax line.
Be sure to check origin of company and where fax lines originate as some of them are overseas and you will be charged for the long distance of the overseas origination even if the fax is coming from local.

quote:It amazes me that people still fax. Just scan it to a PDF and email it (it's 2016). Most scanners have this capability. Automatically queues it up in an email. There's also tons of apps out there - many are free. I'd be willing to bet more people have email addresses than fax machines.

BTW, this is a GREAT little app - use it all the time: LINK

There are some businesses that are required to fax. My fiend is a real estate appraiser and Title Companies require him to fax the appraisals. I'm sure there are plenty of others in the same boat.

Many industries like medical offices, attorneys, and banks still fax to document compliance with privacy standards. Most use an eFax solution, onlinefaxes.com is what I use.

Take a picture of each page of the document and email them.

Tell that to the medical industry and the HIPAA laws that they must abide by.

Just as soon as you convince the federal government that email is an acceptable alternative for disclosing patient records.

quote:When you get right down to it, it's nothing more than a bunch of dots on a piece of paper. The feds let you use a digitized photo (once again - dots on a piece of paper) on your passport photo. How about the .GOV domain? Inconsistent. Even the old-time darkroom photos are a bunch of dots... more correctly, grains. If you send/receive PDFs, I really don't see the difference between that and a fax, presuming they're both eventually going to be turned into PDFs anyway on the receiving end and archived. What about the dots you're looking at right now on your monitor? Why is it ok to look at dots on your monitor, but paper is required with faxes (presuming that's what they're doing)?? Very inconsistent document handling that needs to be standardized, IMHO. On those instances where you need a printed copy, just print the PDF. I realize that they who have the gold make the rules (compliance with certain entities upstream from you), but it still makes my head hurt. Is it the equipment cost or training issues that's holding back a more efficient process?

This is reminiscent of Barney picking up the phone and saying, "Sarah.... get me Thelma Lou", except that chore is now handled by a telcom switch.
