Selling on eBay has become an enormous hassle

Just sold three items on eBay. Two of these buyers have already requested returns. One - didn't want the item anymore. I just declined her return, but I bet I haven't heard the end of it (returns are not accepted as per my auction rules). The other claims there is a small "dot" on the rubber grip of a used camera (condition stated as used with tons of pics provided). Requesting either a full return or a credit of $270.
Nothing is easy anymore. I have had similar experiences in the past 6 months with other items I have tried to sell. Is it just me, or have others dealt with similar issues selling items on eBay? To make matters worse, eBay seems to take the side of the buyer more times than not.

Every now and then the wife and I will go thru and clean out closets, etc. and then try to sell some stuff on eBay... More and more we have items that "sell" only for the buyer to never pay for the item, OR -- my personal favorite -- ask me to ship it Korea, even though the listing said US only

I try to sell locally as much as possible. By the time you pay for shipping, eBay's 10% cut and Paypal's 1% (or w/e it is) you lose a ton. On top of all that, it's rare that a used item actually fetches its FMV to start with. The only advantages to eBay is a much larger marketplace, better platform, and being fairly easy to use.
Lately I've had pretty good luck with a combination of Letgo, Facebook marketplace, Craigslist and sometimes the Neighborhood app. Haven't had any weirdos and I can usually offload something very quickly for cash (and no fees!). My only problem with these apps is having to sift through a lot of low-ballers and people who message you saying they're interested, but then never respond again. But like you mentioned, eBay has its fair share of that issue too

If they want to send it back, they will let them. Doesn’t matter if you say no returns or not. Been down that road

I only sell on LetGo, Offer Up and Facebook Marketplace.
Then once the person meets up with me and buys it, I block them from the app I used. Nothing personal, there is just no other good reason for further communication.

I HATE selling things on eBay now. I only use it as a last resort. They side with the buyer 90% of the time and totally screws over sellers.

Buying things works out fine though ha.

Yes, eBay fees are ridiculous. Seller fee and also a PayPal fee I believe.
Also you have more competitive prices to deal with.
It seems like you can sell for more money locally (fb marketplace) and also have no fees whatsoever.

You can take comfort in my story.
I sold a phone on Swappa (wanted to avoid the eBay fees). I owned the phone for 2 years. Never had one issue with it. The phone was in MINT condition and I included every accessory possible (screen protectors, multiple car and wall chargers, cases, etc.).
Buyer had the phone for 70 days prior to first contacting me that he had "an issue" with phone. Claim the phone kept bootlooping (Pixel XL). He said it had happened since day one of receiving phone. So what happened on day 70 vs. day 1 is my question?
He ends up filing a claim with PayPal. Of course, he won. PayPal doesn't give two shits about sellers. He still has the phone. I'm waiting to receive it. So, I am forced to refund his money and I get back a phone that has now been out of my hands for 3 months. You can't make this shite up.

Yeah, that's really a shame.
I had a similar issue selling electronics.. and I actually think the guy swapped out parts. (Not exactly easy to do on a phone) but I have been there. The one good thing about eBay for me as a seller is that they allow the seller to receive a full refund as well as the buyer for like a one time issue like this.. per year.. without any bad feedback or ratings.
So basically, even though I got my stuff returned, we both got to keep our money.. which was NICE.
So I do appreciate that from eBay.

Tried to sell a GTX 970 back in 2017. Listed it as buy now only. Clearly said in the description that it was used, never overclocked, no refunds, ask questions before buying, etc.
4 hours later, someone buys it, but doesn't pay. He then proceeds to message me asking questions (answers to which were already in the description). Dude, you bought it already. Dude never paid, I had eBay put a strike on his account, and I sold it to a friend IRL for a small discount of what I was asking.
Screw using eBay. Will sell locally only.
