Newbie question here, trying to see if my work computer will support 3 monitors. I currently have 2 setup with no problems at all. It will even support the laptop screen + the 2 monitors. One is VGA and the other is Displayport.

I have looked up the graphics card and it does seem like it supports up to 3 monitors, Im assuming this means I can extend them not just duplicate them... "HD 4600/HD 5500 Graphics will support 1 analog display (LCD or VGA) and 2 Digital displays (DVI or DisplayPort) in a 3 display configuration."

I guess I need some sort of adapter to add a Displayport, but I see a bunch of splitters, which I'm assuming will require me to choose which monitor to display to. What is the adapter I am really looking for?

Would something like this work?

Would USB-3 be able to detect a new display via this adapter??

I bought a $50-70 usb multi-display adapter for my laptop that is used basically as a desktop. I have a 24” monitor and 32” tv connected over hdmi as extended displays. Also utilize laptop screen as a display, so 3 displays in total. I could add another with vga but no need for analog in current setup.

Nice. My job supplied a 3rd monitor but laptop only has 2 ports on the case. I am looking at basically doing the same thing but the monitors do not have HDMI and neither does the stone-age laptop Im using. So Im trying to piece together as an amateur.

Your USB-C can do this, but only if it is Thunderbolt. That is your first question.

Then you just need to find the docking adapter that has the output ports you need for the monitors you will be using. There are hundreds of such adapters, so finding one with the ports you need should be easy-peasy.
