If you go to the URL bar and type in chrome://flags and search "dark"

On PC you can enable force dark mode:

and on mobile (android only, iOS soon) you can enabled it for theme

Once you do that on mobile go to chrome settings, theme, and select this:

It's not perfect but it gives TD a dark theme, and it's way better than the eye-bleeding white:

Yw, it's not perfect (the buttons are hard to read) but it's a million times better than white, I know you have to be as happy as I am

dark mode

This is a serious question: how can anybody take to use dark mode for more than 10 consecutive seconds? It immediately gives me a headache and the "photo negative" effect when I look away that lingers for a long time.

Even just looking at the dark mode screenshots in the OP drives me crazy.

At the very least, how is it better than regular mode?

For one it uses less battery depending on your display. The other advantages are personal preference. I appreciate a native dark mode and usually use them when available, but these forced CSS dark modes, like the one mentioned in the OP, often leave much to be desired.

It's not for everyone, but I prefer it over the ungodly amount of WHITE LIGHT that shoots in my face all day. It's especially better at night in dark rooms for me.

I'm an IT professional systems/network admin, I look at screens all day, and it is better on my eyes.

Most programmers prefer dark mode as well, which is why most of the programmers IDE software they use comes installed as default.

If you stare at code, server admin consoles, etc all day it might be better.

I know it's not for all but that's my best estimation of why, mainly it sits better with the eyes for long periods of time, the blinding white light gets old fast.

That's interesting to know.

I just have the brightness on my screens turned relatively low. And at night in dark rooms I put it on the very lowest, which seems very mild to me.
