Thanks Vermilion. I fell to your peer pressure

Id like to do this but how would you get internet if you cut the cord? You would still need to use Cox/Charter/Brightouse internet right? That's like probably 50 bucks a month for a nice highspeed. So it comes out to close to the same as you would with a bundle with those cable companies... is that not correct?

$50 + $30 = $80... I wasn't paying $80 for the channels Vue provides + a DVR service. I was also paying for a monthly rental for the damn box.
Plus you're not in a long term contract. If you're going on vacation for a week, cancel it and sign up after. You aren't paying for a wasted week.

I pay $55 a month for my internet. In addition I was paying Directv $111 just for my cable. Now I will pay $55 for my internet and only 30 for my cable. A savings of approx. 80 a month.
So yes you still need internet from somewhere, but you should still save.

On a side note, Vermilion I don't know anything about KODI. What does it do for me and is it legal and harmless to put on my fire? Excuse my ignorance on the topic

Who in here is using the FireTV and not a PS4/PS3 and are happy?

A couple here have said that Fire TV is just as good as PS4. Do NOT get a fire stick or pick up a PS3, as the experience is not the same.
Fire TV is great.

I can vouch for FireTV, box not stick. Good experience.

Ok so I got off the phone with the Cox Tech support and apparently Cox doesn't offer a residential static IP and the IP address changes every 24 hours. I had initially looked up my IP address and it said it was static, but it was a different postal code than my house. I thought this was the issue but it wasn't. They only offer a static IP address to Cox Business internet users. But that doesn't explain why every other Cox residential internet user around Lafayette and in other areas can access it. I'm really at my wit's end with the BS.

I tried to sign up for vue today since my Fire TV is being delivered tomorrow. My purchase wouldn't go through so I had to chat with an agent (who was useless). According to her security protocol locked me out and I have to wait 24 hours to subscribe.

Did you set yourself up a PSN account?
Posted on 3/29/16 at 12:24 pm to VermilionTiger
Already had one from waaaaaay back in the day. I haven't had a playstation in years but I still had my account info

I highly doubt everybody's IP changes every 24 hours. That's more than likely their DHCP lease period, or the half-life, and you IP CAN change..but likely won't.

I am going to check out the trial on this starting today, and i'll report my experience with it.

I have been using Vue for the last 2 days on the trial with the lowest package. After only 2 days I can confidently say I will be cancelling Direct TV.
I have used it on a PS4, Fire TV (box), and Fire Stick.
As previous posters have said the PS4 and Fire Tv box are great. Once I go through set up all my favorite channels, and set shows to record etc., I actually think it will be better than Direct Tv. I will add that the PS4 is hard wired and the Fire TV is wireless and performance is very close if not exactly the same in my house/location.
I'd give the slight edge to the Fire tv just because I like the remote better than using the game controller, but will be ordering a media remote for the PS4 to get past that.
The Fire stick interface seems to look the same as the others, but it is definitely less responsive. I will use the stick in my kids room for now. With the ability to load up specific profiles, I'll set all the kids channels to his favorites to cut down on navigation. I will also use a stick in the kitchen because we don't watch it all that much and when we do it's pretty much only for the kid.
I will say that although the interface is slower on the stick, the picture is fine and I haven't had any buffering issues with is running on WiFi.
If i were buying additional devices, I'd definitely pony up the extra cash for the Box, faster and you also get the voice remote.
At this time I pay $55 for Internet, and about $120 for Direct TV. So I'm looking at a savings of $90 per month.
I have a Clearstream 4v that I can an open box deal on from Best Buy for $103 that will be installed this weekend.
There will be a learning curve for the wife, but all in all I'm thinking it should all be a pretty smooth transition. Fortunately the Vue has MTV and she can watch Teen Mom. Ha

My only hang up with pulling the trigger is I'm not in a position to be hard wired...I would be purchasing a Fire TV so I'll ask, how is your experience with the wifi? Any issues at all?
