When our electricity goes out and then comes back on, conveniently always at 3am, all the smart bulbs, including the 3 lamps in our bedroom come on at full brightness. Anyone know of a way to prevent this?

If its Hue, there is a setting in the app for that. I assume other brands might also.

On hue, there is a setting that you can tell it what to turn it on to. It's under the power-on behavior setting. You can't disable the auto-turn on, but you can pick a setting that's at like 1%. I've had that issue where it turns on full blast at 3 am and wakes up the baby and toddler and then all hell breaks loose. Pisses me off that I can't disable that setting.

In this setting, if you just set the value to last used color and brightness and the lights were off then they will remain off.

Well shite, these aren't hue, they're some off brand I got on amazon. Which work incredibly well aside from this issue. I guess it's not that big of a deal, I was already awake because it thundered incessantly all damn night. It would be even less of a deal if we didn't have a lamp across the room that I have to get out of bed for.

I guess they've updated that. It used to be that if you set it to last value used, then it would go to the last value used when the light was emitting light.

I guess the bigger question is, how often are you losing power where this has become annoying?

You could turn the switches off when the power goes out. Its probably pretty horrible for them to be on when the power surges back on anyway.

Is it SmartLife controlled? Or whatever smart all you use, dig into the settings for it for “turn on after power loss” and disable it

On hue I set mine to return to where the were when power out. So they stay off

Put the lamp with the smart bulb on a smart plug. The plugs don't automatically turn on after you power them up...
