Pretty pleased with my Homepod...

About a week in now.
Set up is a snap. Take it out the box , plug it in and hold your phone up to it. It transfers all you settings including Wifi password etc. and is ready to go in under a minute.
Sound fills the room well. And adjusts to acoustics in the room and where you position it.
Bass is crisp and the speaker doesn't struggle with it. Nice highs. Of course the music source isn't Hi Fidelity so you can't expect great sound out of any standard music player.
It's obviously geared for home music. With Apple Music Siri is lightening fast. "Hey Siri" "Play the last Waltz. " Ok here's the Last Waltz by The Band--boom it instantly starts playing. No delay or hesitation.
Don't have any accessories for Home Kit yet so I can't speak to control of lights etc.
Siri itself is only adequate as far as providing info, isn't up to the competition but I really don't think it's meant to be--at least not yet. Device isn't really geared for that.
Of course, as is usual Apple is proud of it, as reflected in the price...$349.00

I don’t think this is as much a thing as people think. If the speaker sounds great to you then don’t worry about it. Looking forward to seeing the full potential of this speaker. Hopefully it will live up to its price tag.

Good man. I already can envision people coming in and shitting on your or the homepod in this thread BUT if you're happy, that's all that matters!!!

I'd love to get one, I just cant justify $350 on it.
Much like their AirPower strip coming out that's gonna run $199. Ive got 5 wireless charges at 12.99 placed all around my house for a fraction of the price.

can't you set apple music to play your library at a very high quality setting or are you talking audiophile levels of HiFi? i think spotify calls it 'insane' quality or something like that as the top tier of music playback.
if you have any CDs you should rip them as FLAC and upload them to apple music and see how they sound.
these are some great mastered albums for giving your new speaker a workout:
Steely Dan - Aja
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly
Alan Parsons - I Robot
Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

I'll stick to Craigslist Sonos

What I don't understand is why this is such a half baked product when it's allegedly been in development off and on for at least 6 years. Considering music is what started Apple's expansion from PCs into consumer electronics, and how Apple made a big splash with Siri when they first bought it, I think we're looking at a Microsoft Missing the Internet level event with Apple being so far behind the curve on these Speaker Assistants.

I'm gonna look into it.

ETA: It does support FLAC

my collection has grown to 7 Play 1s, 2 play 3s, a sub and a soundbar.
missed out on great deals on the 'big fish' play 5s twice. you gotta be careful on that one because i definitely don't want the P5 v1.
didnt pay remotely close to retail for any of it and they all look virtually brand new and came with the boxes (which I also kept).
i guess if i was really cool i'd pay installer-margins on top of them buying the sonos speakers at retail + tax for me

What are you looking to snag a 5 for? Best Buy near me has two open box excellent for $430 each.
Moving to a new house and don’t have space for my big home theatre setup. I just listed my Connect on eBay and couldn’t believe it got to $200 so quick.

How much have you been paying for play 3s?

i got both of mine for around $150 but the next sub $150 that pops up is for django after i let one slip through the cracks he wanted.

I could possibly get two for $300 total. Worth it or nah?

where are you putting them?
IMO the 1s are great because they are essentially 360 sound so they do best in rooms where you walk around them.
the 3s shine when they're stereo-paired and mounted along a wall projecting outward. i have a pic of mine that i have paired with a sub on here somewhere but tigerwise hurt my feelings and laughed at me so i'm not sure i want to post it again.
IMO the 3s sound better than the 1s in this configuration and definitely fill a room more but they are also the oldest current sonos product on the market.
at that price i'd do it; look to monoprice for a $5 mount if you plan on installing them permanently and DEFINITELY stereo-pair them because they sound amazing when you do.

I think his point is that you aren't going to get audiophile sound out of a portable speaker but that doesn't mean that it can't sound good (enough).

while i'm thinking about it; tigerwise were you serious about the sonos/wink integration question?
after having used it for a bit i can give you some pics and the lowdown on how it works. so far i'm happy but again my expectations were low and my tolerance for quirkiness was high.
so it works but with the usual caveats that wink can never seem to make things work 100% problem free.

Yeah, I made a comment that Sonos doesn't exactly play nice with others. To which you responded "it fully integrates with Wink".
So yes, I questioned Sonos fully integrating with Wink. I think your definition of full integration is diffrent than mine.
