So CAD, should i just say frick it and get one?

i'm a terrible person to ask because i'll simply remind you its still only $249 while in kickstarter mode....

before you do that, go hit the /sense reddit and read some of the conversation there. a sense rep is on that board as well.

I'd be hesitant. The guy said he had been running it for 17 days and it hadnt even recognized his washer, dryer, or dishwasher.

Seems kinda shitty.

Apple doesn't care about ioT

quote:

"HomeKit collides with the rest of the industry," Ed Hemphill, the CEO of WigWag, told us. WigWag is developing an open-source hub to work with just about every IoT and smart home device out there. Except Apple.

"Their approach is just onerous and unnecessary," says Hemphill, referring to the need to include an Apple chip and go through its certification program

quote:

neither the Amazon Echo nor the Google Home will work with Apple's HomeKit. Apple has an uphill battle trying to impose the same constraints it put on iOS in the IoT market for the simple reason that IoT is first and foremost a hardware game. Without that physical thermostat, or lightbulb, or sensor, or power socket, or camera, or lock, the best software in the world can't do anything.

I'm not an apple hater but home kit just sounds like a debacle.

well i didnt, i thought i would going to be able to go to the dryer, turn it on for a few minutes and off. do that a few times ad it would recognize it. not it having to be running for a month before it finds a few things.

the schlage logo on my lock stopped working. You can still lock the door by typing the code but it sucks the easy lock button stopped. Here i was so satisfied with the product too.

read the /sense subreddit. the paint isn't dry on this system yet but the POTENTIAL is there to recognize every device. they claim its just a software update to make detection of new appliances faster.

the YOUTUBE author says he'll post a new video in a couple of weeks saying if its picking up more devices.

the /sense rep says if it isn't detecting stuff after a month, they'll give you a full refund.

finally, this is the *FIRST* energy device able to pick up small devices. the nuria, etc could only pick out the HVAC and super-high draw appliances. the appeal of SENSE is that its much better at detecting virtually any device.

again, take that with a grain of salt..we are at the start of a new type of product here so i'm not surprised its a slow process.

dude, in the time it took you to type this you could have called schlage support and gotten a new one sent to you for free.

sell the one with the logo issue on ebay or move it to another door. schlage doesn't want the broken one back.

personaly i dont think i've hit the 'schlage lock' button in the last 2 months except when my 2yo wants to play with locking/unlcoking it.

i have wink pretty much handling all my door locking needs.

well i bought it off ebay second hand so i wasnt sure schlage would be helpful. I just noticed this morning and planned on trying to reset the lock just to see if it possibly fixed the problem before calling schlage.

My personal schedules are set up to lock the lock if and only if everyone leaves the house, not just one person. However, with the broken logo button it might be in my best interest to adjust that.

cnet laughably bad review of wink

Reporters are idiots. You average wink redditor child have provided a more factual "review".

Journalism is dead.

What is everyone's opinion on the go control for security or just sensor usage? Are the only sensor maker compatible with wink?

I've used the go control security products for a good five or so years now. 2gig is the Sonos of the alarm industry.

Cad,

You still have extras? Look to be about 85 bucks at Home Depot.

Would need more than 3 sensors though.

For compatible products, check here

GE just came out with a compatible motion sensor. Haven't heard any reviews though.
