Huge update just released for the Wink Hub. I hope this fixes a lot of the issues that CAD is having.

What's New in Version 2.8.0
Product Updates: Schlage Connect Deadbolts get a major update: Add, edit, and remove user codes from the Wink app so you can give access to your home when you need to and take it away when you don’t. Adjust the lock’s built-in alarm from your Wink app. Turn on the alarm to scare away intruders or use the chime to know when the door has opened. Also, check the lock battery status from the app so you'll never be caught off guard by dead batteries again.
New Products: GE ConnectPlus helps you get more out of your GE refrigerator: adjust the temp, get alerts when the door has been left open or when it is time to change the water filter, and know when your fridge needs maintenance before it’s a serious problem.
Pella blinds are now compatible with Wink. That means you can raise or lower your blinds using the Wink app from anywhere, or you can schedule them to open and close automatically for extra privacy or to make it look like you’re home when you’re not.
Fixes: This is a big one: We’ve fixed that infuriating polling issue that caused your lights to show the incorrect state in the app. (E.g., the app shows the lights are on after you turn them off manually at the switch.)
Improved the HUB update process to make it faster and more reliable. This will make future updates way easier.
Improved the process to add Z-Wave locks to your account. This should make sure things go smoothly the first time.
Sneak Peek:The next app update includes tons of bug fixes. Coming to an app store near you next week. Keep the feedback coming: questions@wink.com 844-WINK-APP

I got my lock in and installed yesterday. I don't have a Hub yet, CAD if you were buying a Hub today, would you still go wink or is there another one that you would look at? Let me know if the update seawolf mentioned helps.

its about fricking time.
listen to ol' cad. i told you that schlage had a shitton of API calls that weren't being used. i looked up the API online and found that out all by myself. i was like 'goddamn that lock is cooler than anyone ever imagined. too bad wink SUCKS a DICK'
i honestly didn't think wink would ever add all of those and i'm fricking blown away they now include them..but things that are obvious to you and i (like remotely triggering the door alarm!) are also included.
maybe i should go ahead & set the wink up properly at the new house

its been low on the priority list until now.

i see wink deals are starting to pop again. if you can find a hub for < $15 its worth trying.
vera, smarthings and other hubs have their own issues.
for the price, wink is a no-brainer even with the problems.

Yeah it's pretty sweet, it will definitely help that my kids don't have to keep up with a key now. I'm looking forward to getting a hub and being able to use all the functions.

yep. if they have smartphones you can give them access to the lock so you can see WHO unlocked the door each time.
curious if wink supports naming the schalge codes..if so you could do the same thing (without phones or having to create profiles and have them download the app) by naming each code the person's name who will be using it.

love that lock.

That just doesn't sound right

I have held off on the wink. I have also investigated insteon hub and products.
I am undecided but i have enjoyed this thread

I started with these this year. I have some lamp controls, light switches, and the garage door opener. Also have nest logged into it. Set up for the individual devices was painless. The hub took a little bit of work to set up the IP and port forwarding, but nothing too difficult.

We just bought a Liftmaster garage door opener with MyQ. We were told we won't be able to use the wifi function unless we buy the MyQ gateway to go with it.
If I have a Wink hub, does that take the place of the MyQ gateway, or do I still need to buy that separately?

I let them each pick their own code for the lock, but I had already done that with my simplisafe alarm, so I had some of that ability already.
I also have a silent alarm on my liquor cabinet with the simplisafe system that will send me a text anytime those doors get opened. Between that, me being able to see where their phones are, and the ability to look in a event log to see when a door or window get opened on the house, hopefully my girls will have less opportunity for mischief than I did.

It appears so.

I just made the jump from Wink to Smartthings, and I think I am going to prefer this platform. You are able to download/write custom programs and it is just more tinker friendly. For example, this guy has installed a dashboard and is using a Nexus 7 tablet with tasker to be the wall mounted control panel.
I have that dashboard set up, and since it is just a webpage you are able to add that shortcut to any mobile device homepage and it will have a icon. Click it to open the page as an app and control whatever. That part is much more wife approved since it is super easy to use.
One issue is that Smartthings may not be compatible with all your existing devices. Luckily, I only had one thing not compatible so that was a non-issue for me. Also, the timers seem to be much more of a pain to set vs wink, and I am still getting that sorted out. All in all, while it is different, I am not sure it is any "better" per se, but I think Smartthings is a better product for me.

on sale at amazon for $37 FYI

So even WITH the Wink Hub we still have to have the gateway?
Well I guess $37 is better than the $60 our installer charges for it.

I'm not loving it at the moment, I had to take it off and put the old deadbolt back on when I got home yesterday. After working perfectly for about 24 hours, it suddenly just locked up and won't work.
Update: I was able to talk with customer service and they walked me through a few things, and it is working perfectly again.

What do you have in the way of light switches? That seems like a better option than the bulbs, but I want something that will work manually or through the app and stay synced.
Posted on 4/21/15 at 12:09 pm to seawolf06
Do you happen to have the MyQ garage door gateway (Liftmaster or Chamberlain)? I have the 823LM light switches and they work great. They don't currently work with the Wink hub like the garage door does, so you will need to use the MyQ app. They are cheaper than the switches on Wink's website.

I'm about to build a house. Can you ballpark the difference in cost to set it up with these locks, thermostats, hubs, etc vs non-smart home? We talking 5k? 1k?
Also, what about concerns that someone could hack your system, turn off security, etc?

I don't have MyQ, but I'll look into those switches.
Thanks.
Thanks.
