Anyone else find it strange that Google essentially just rebranded everything they are doing and are acting like it is life-changing? I felt like I was watching an Apple event.
Yeah, I said that a few weeks ago and was downvoted a lot.

Nexus -> Pixel
Google Now -> Google Assistant
VR -> Daydream
Onhub -> Google Wifi
Google Cast -> Google Home (this one will be changing in the upcoming update to the app)
All technology improvements of great products. Remind me again why they need to stop all of those and go in some different direction? This is an ecosystem that is continuously being improved upon. They are doing a great job and all of their products are great. Home looks to be killer, chromecast is going 4k, VR headset looks great (and is free with pixel purchase), etc.
How the frick is this fragmentation? The Pixel line is putting googles software and now hardware design to the fore front of Android. I'm having trouble understanding what you are bitching about.

Personally, I think it's just the natural evolution of Google. They ARE the internet right now. It's only logical that they are doing what they are doing right now.

quote:I guess? Are they eventually going to have 2 separate operating systems for phones (one for Pixel, and one for Samsung, LG, etc. to license)? If they start heavily advertising for the Pixel, it will hurt their partnership with those other phone manufacturers. And if they don't, the Pixel is going to be extremely unsuccessful.
Yeah, I said that a few weeks ago and was downvoted a lot. It's exactly what they are doing. And, honestly, I am so glad that they are. I'm tired of carriers fricking up phones by adding a bunch of apps YOU ALREADY HAVE and doing nothing but making your phone slow as shite.
Are they trying to capture the high-end Android market to directly compete with iPhones? Because Samsung has already firmly established themselves at the forefront of that market. And Samsung isn't going to just walk away from that quietly.
I just don't see their vision here. And they didn't nothing to sell their vision. And then couple that with the Andromeda rumors and WTF are they even doing?

quote:Because there will now be specific features that are only available on devices that they make? Millions upon millions of people buy Samsung Android devices. And those people will never see features that Google holds onto and does not put into the versions of Android they share with partners. So, it will be different, fragmented.
How the frick is this fragmentation?
quote:I never said they did. They made small changes to multiple products and renamed them in an effort to sell them as massively huge changes. It is a cheap marketing ploy that someone like Apple would use. It's a cheap ploy that companies use when the prior product is unsuccessful. I'm disappointed that Google is going down that path.

Oh. You mean how samsung, LG, HTC and the like take Android and put their own personal features on top of it? This is no different except Google is going to market now to compete against all of them, not just Apple. What exactly are you wanting Google to do? Pull android from the market and lock down the OS? frick that shite.

I mean, the reason that Android is supremely popular all over the world can be attributed to Samsung's success in marketing the Galaxy line to high-end phone users and the other smaller companies having success with the cheaper Android phones. Without Samsung, Android would be a failure currently. And now Google is going to become a direct competitor to them?

Well hell stop paying the fees and write your own damn OS from the ground up.

I'm not saying that Google can't do it. I'm just wondering why they are doing it. Samsung already has a massively large-scale fan base for their phones. Is Google's goal to become that dominate force in the Android phone market?
BTW, you joke about building your own OS for phones. But, Samsung has been building Tizen for 5 years already. They've already released smart watches, cameras, and cheaper phones in India that run Tizen. There is already a baseline there for Samsung to move to if they were to choose to.
Sure it would be difficult to have massive success in the smartphone market for Tizen. But, they could surely undercut Android's popularity in the cheaper smartphone market. And that market is what has Android on top of iOS globally.
It's an interesting dynamic that's for sure. I like how you guys are jumping down my throat and cussing at me for questioning Google. I'm a Google homer who has always bashed Apple. It just appears to me that Google is doing some stupid things right now. You don't have to be a sheep and love everything they do, right?

Question about contacts ...
I understand that the Pixel will come with an adapter to help transfer contacts, pictures, etc. from an iPhone to Pixel.
On Apple, my contacts are all jacked up. I have people in there that I don't know how or why they got in there (and yes, I've unchecked where it should look for contacts). I believe it happened with OWA - pulled in a tremendous amount of work contacts and I no longer work for the company and have deleted OWA - but they're still there.
I am essentially wanting to start from scratch entering in my contacts. Here's my question. Can I input this information using a keyboard and computer from inside Google (My Account)?
Or will this have to be done "manually" on my phone?

Yes. You can either edit online in your google account or import from excel, etc.

you can do contacts from Google Mail. you just go to gmail, click the arrow next to gmail on the top left and select contacts. then you can do all your contacts. personally, i'd import them from your iphone, let your phone sync the contacts, and then go to your computer and fix whatever needs fixing.

Easy.They want to market a phone and present Android the way it is in-visioned in all it's purity. I love it personally.

And their phones and butchered up Android OS are pure dog shite. It is hurting Android and Google knows it. Just look at all the iPhone users that give android a trial only to bail out back to iOS because of fricking Samsungs trash.

Yes. Daddy needs to get the house in order. Someone has to do it.

Of course not. People not wanting to drop upwards of 1k on a smartphone have my respect. No problem.
I have a problem with "where's the sd card slot?" "no wireless charging?" "it's not waterproof." (well, the waterproof feature is nice, but no deal breaker for me personally). It's the gimmicky shite Samsung pushes to sell phones. SD cards and removable batteries are a thing of the past. Uneducated, tech illiterate people keep bitching and for that I say keep buying Samsung's garbage. It's a match made in heaven.
I'm rambling, but sure you can criticize any product by any manufacturer. I'm not giving you a hard time because I think you should bow to all things Google. I just have my opinion on it just like you and were because I don't agree with your stance about Googles direction. It's cool.
