512mb of ram is not my idea of a pretty good phone.
Specs don't really matter on Windows Phones. They run efficient regardless of specs.
On the other hand, Samsung is releasing shite like this in 2014
quote:
The Galaxy Core II (shown here) is the standout of the bunch, although it's a curious case of taking two steps forward and one step back. While it has a larger 4.5-inch (if still WVGA) screen and a much faster quad-core 1.2GHz processor, it also drops from 1GB to 768MB of RAM and cuts the built-in storage in half, to 4GB. Thank goodness there's a microSD card slot, or that storage could get cramped very quickly.

Unless you have a heavy need for lots of apps, the Windows phones are a very sweet deal.
Pros: Very nicely integrated with your Windows 8.1 desktop or laptop. The "big" items you are likely to use are supported (search, email, maps, traffic, notetaking, etc.)
Cons: The "big" items mentioned above are not necessarily what you're used to. They are, however, perfectly fine and in the notetaking case OneNote is generally considered better than the competition. Other apps are pretty hard to come by as well.
Overall, it's still a pretty solid offering and for the price it's the best deal going.

He called it a "pretty good phone", he didn't qualify it with "for the price".
If I wanted to spend $100 or less on a no contract phone, I'd buy a refurbished atrix hd from eBay.

Yes, I did. In my first two posts.
ETA: I actually did it twice in the post you replied to.

I am thinking about getting this phone and selling my iPhone 5 before the prices drop like crazy when the new phones come out in the next few months.

Sorry for reviving this old thrrad, but would this phone work with Straight Talk?
Posted on 7/6/14 at 4:32 pm to doublecutter
Per this forum, yes. And it doesn't even need to be unlocked. YMMV.

I don't know but I'm loving this phone.

Over a year with my 920. Apps are coming along. Nothing big that I am missing except a few local apps like WBRZ... But those apps are just basically the website. I am on 8.1 which is a big step up.

Can you stream audio or video from Amazon from the stock IE app?
Posted on 7/6/14 at 10:25 pm to ColdDuck
Doesn't look like it on my first attempt. I did not try UC yet though.

Shucks. I doubted it would. I just couldn't find anyone actually saying you could/couldn't.

We have used this phone for some of our guys in the field while waiting for replacements. Phone isn't bad, just a touch slow but not painfully so. Bluetooth is crap, so if you need that you are going to be disappointed

Did anyone get this? I have a nexus 4 which is significantly better but I want to try Windows 8.1

Here is the problem. If you test Windows 8.1 with a low spec phone, you aren't going to end up liking your experience.
Sounds like this phone is good for beginners, but if you have had a flagship phone you aren't going to have fun playing with 8.1 on a lower spec phone.
Sure I get that Windows Phone operates better on lower specs than Android, but testing a system on a slower phone is going to taint your enjoyment.
The damn 1525 can't arrive soon enough. I love my 920 but I want a phablet. I refused to get the 1520 after AT&T took a crap on it by removing QI and dropping internal storage to 16gb.

slow down hoss. This phone won't hinder anyone's experience with Windows Phone. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of the higher end Windows Devices but this phone will outperform many Android devices.

quote:Yes it could. It will be somewhat slower. In an already limited App store, there will be further limitations because of the 512ram.

I love my Lumia but for someone wanting to test the Windows waters, I would say go to any store and test the flagship phones.
For someone wanting a cheap quality phone, then yes, this would be a great choice.

My wife is still using her 8+ year old flip phone, but I was thinking of getting this cheap as a learner smart phone. How bad is the Bluetooth? I was going to sync it to her car so she could go hands free.

You can use a BT earpiece if you keep the phone in your shirt pocket, but if you try putting it in your pants pockets, you are SOL. So I guess it depends on where she puts her phone in the car as well as the strength of the BT in her car
