Not hijack, but can you just get a ring camera /doorbell item and use it free? I know there is an APP, but do I have to pay for anything? other then the time to wire it up and make it fit?

Are there any additional fees involved?
All Ring devices will operate without an additional fee or subscription. You will receive alerts when visitors press your doorbell or trigger motion sensors in your device. You will also get live streaming video and two-way audio. There is, however, a Ring Protect Plan available. Ring Protect will allow you to review share and save Ring videos. You can choose between Ring Protect Basic and Plus.

So everything works except it won't save any video. You get notifications, and you can view live and use 2 way audio.

We have two of the cameras. Well, one is the doorbell, the other is an interior camera I set up sometimes to watch the kids. I only have the subscription on the doorbell. I like having the history on videos, since I'm not always at a spot to answer a ring, plus the motion alerts are good to keep a record of.

I picked up the Ring doorbell Video Wired on Prime day but can't get it to stay Connected to the internet. It will setup just fine and stay connected and working for 15 minutes up to an hour or two with solid white light, but then goes offline for no reason. I have to reset it and do setup again to get it back online. I've tried cutting the power to it, removing it from the app and re-adding it, and setting it to a static IP address.

2.4ghz wifi connection is very strong where it is at, and even when it goes offline, my router still reports it as connected with occasional up and downstream traffic. It's like it's connected to the wifi still but not to the internet.

I've found as long as I flip the breaker connected to it every few hours it works as expected.

Irritating AF.

The Ezviz DB1C video doorbell is the best bang for the buck. Cost is currently about $85. No subscription recording to SD card, human AI detection, wired power, adjustable motion detection down to the exact pixels you want to trigger events/alarms, great app and settings, up to 256GB SD card, and more. You can record continuously if you want, but it always records several seconds overwriting continuously when not in continuous modes and creates event recording several seconds before motion triggers. That is super cool. If someone walks up on your porch you'll get an instant notification and event recording started before they even get to the doorbell. They'll hear a beep if you want. If they ring the doorbell your phone receives it like a phone call with a snapshot photo. You can answer it or discard it. If you answer it, you are in an instant two-way intercom call where you see the person while they talking. Very convenient.

Negatives: 1080P (not really because it takes clear videos), does not interface to Alexa, cloud recording is available but you pay for it. So if you don't need 4K, Alexa interface, or cloud recording for free, it is a really great doorbell cam.

Honestly, to a novice like myself, it sounds more like a router issue than an issue with the ring...

I don't use it but the following link to Ezviz.com explains. You may have to scroll down for the prices. The prices depend on factors like how many cameras, length of service (yearly, monthy etc), and how much storage (7 or 30 days worth of storage) over that timeframe. I have no idea how it compares to other Cameras like Ring, but it looks expensive and I just don't want to pay squat.

If someone steals my Ezviz Doorbell cam they will be videotaped from five other security cameras on the front of my house. I especially like the Wyze V3 cams recording continuously 24 x 7 which are super inexpensive and also record to SD and are mounted out of reach of vandals & theives. Only in the event my house burns down do I lose all of my recordings. Otherwise the camera videos are going to capture any intruders, vandals, etc. I'm just not going to pay for any monthly subscriptions.

After nearly 3 years with 3 ring doorbells, I have yet to capture a video that could be used to ID a person that I didn't already know. I mean if someone rings the bell and stands there waiting, after 5-10 seconds the video clears up enough to see some detail.

I bought a ring a few years back, and last week installed a smart lock (eufy WiFi touch).

The smart lock is infinitely more useful, I wish I would have purchased one long ago.

I've never experienced any issue like this with any other devices though. I'm not sure how to even troubleshoot a router issue when the issue cannot be repeated with any other device.

I think mine do something similar. They go offline all the time for no apparent reason. Live view fails to load far too often. I also very often get 3 back to back notifications for the same event.

Do you have UniFi APs?

I spent about an hour on the phone with Ring support, and they act like this is the first time they've heard of any of these problems.

No. I have an Asus RT-AX82U. It's a decent middle of the line router.

And yeah, I heard that's how they always respond. The problem is reddit is littered with these complaints.
