quote:I'm not sure if she's ever been throttled, but she goes over 3GB every month (and 4 and 5 some months) and she hasn't mentioned any slowdown (and she typically bitches about that sort of thing). I will do some speed tests toward the end of our next cycle and make sure she uses a lot of data to find out.
They don't throttle her? I thought any data plan gets throttled now it's just the first however many GB per plan are unthrottled.
quote:The Net10 site says 3GB unthrottled for your plan... did they change it?
In my case, the first 4GB of my unlimited data are unthrottled.
quote:So here's how the math works out if both she and I switch to Net10.
But yeah, $45 a month and $49.59 total per month. Can't beat it, and I get great service as always with AT&T.
We both generally get flagship phones every 2 years, and AT&T subsidizes about $450, so we pay $200 each for $650 phones. With our bill at $140, over 2 years we pay $3360 + $400 = $3760.
If we switch to Net10, we will be out of pocket $1300 for phones, plus $90-95/mth for service, which comes out to $3460-3580. So we are paying $180-300 more over 2 years with AT&T, and the $900 I save up front could probably earn me at least $100 over 2 years, so I would put the total savings with Net10 at $80-200 over 2 years or $40-100/yr, for us. It kinda seems worth it for the convenience of having a store nearby to walk into when we have a problem.

2 would run 90 a month. Its 85 dollars a month for that plan for 2 with 3GB. (they do offer 5GB plans)
$2160 for phone service with net 10 plus cost of phone. Plus you can get an LG G3 for 499 right now through their partner.
quote:does that include taxes and fees? When I price ATT today it puts me around 160 for 2 phones prior to fees and what not. Your rates wont increase for now. But what about when you renew?
With our bill at $140

Sounds like you're in an identical situation to mine. Subsidized phones + old plan = not much more expensive than these straight talk/net10 off-contract style plans.

Are the big companies driving everyone towards their rent to own programs though? Will ATT still allow you to keep old plan and get new phones in the future?
FWIW I see the MVNOs a bit like how NetZero used to be. Great while it lasted then the big companies changed the game when new tech cane out and they were run out.

I've been renewing my contract with AT&T every two years (more often if you consider that my wife and I upgrade our phones on a staggered schedule), and our rate has been the same since the day we bought the first gen iPhone over 7 years ago. Doesn't mean it won't ever change, but I've said before that the day AT&T decides to stop offering subsidized phones and starts fricking with my old plan is the day I jump ship. Just enjoying the ride for now.

Hey OP, change the thread title to wireless phone contracts. Way to hijack this thread, dickbags.

quote:Yes, we pay AT&T a total of $140, but I do have the minimum data plan (which I never use), and my wife gets a $15 discount for being a government employee.

Its just conversation while we are all waiting for an announcement with no clue when it will come.. C'mon google. Just show me a real price at least. Would love to have this phone but I don't need a 5.9 inch phone if its going to cost 570 dollars too.

My two plans works out to 45.27 per phone exactly.

Also, I would imagine the MVNO's on AT&T don't get the same QoS as actual AT&T customers. Even if AT&T gives them the same throughput, I'm almost certain their latency will be worse, and that really adds up on web pages these days.

Ah OK, so with Net10 my actual savings will be closer to $200 over 2 years. I'm still not sure it's worth it if QoS with MVNO's is like I've read about.

I am anxiously awaiting any sort of announcement. Just passing the time until then.

I have ATT on Net10 and haven't noticed any difference at all. I had to call customer service 1 time and it was just as shitty of an experience as ATT was. Actual cell service has been great and I like knowing that if they really piss me off I can give them the finger and go somewhere else.
Only issue you have is that if you cancel you cant just jump back on board and not get hit with the huge increase in prices they have now.

I've wondered how AT&T prioritizes those types of users on their network if there's congestion.

Available for pre-order starting in late October.
I wonder if there will be any available when I'm eligible for an upgrade mid-November.
