Try the free Root Browser on the Google Play store. It was the only one that let me rename the file.

Maybe, I don't have my N6 yet so I'm not 100% sure.
But that is the terminal command to mount rw.
Posted on 11/20/14 at 10:20 pm to ILikeLSUToo
that works.
So why in the hell would a SuperUser in a terminal not be able to rename a file after the file was made r/w but an app in SU can?

Did you type Su and allow it access in terminal?

No clue. This is all trial and error for me. Kind of just jumping into without knowing 100% what's happening, but I really wanted that fricking splash animation gone.
I already managed to pick up some mild malware on my PC in the process. I googled some generic drivers for the nexus which I needed to unlock the bootloader, and after that, my browser would launch to some russian gaming site at every reboot. Easy to remove fortunately. Par for the course when you aren't paying attention.

Did you use Wug's root thing to root? It made rooting incredibly easy. It automatically downloaded drivers and everything I needed, and walks you through it. When I was done I said, "wow, I need to donate some money to this guy"
Posted on 11/20/14 at 10:27 pm to Hulkklogan
I used it to root, but not to unlock the bootloader. I did that manually before you mentioned the Wug program. Probably would've saved me some headache if I'd used it for everything.
Also, I can't get that Boot Animations app to install a new animation. Just says "install failed."

My tracking hasn't updated since it left Ft Worth last night at 9pm. Gotta love USPS.
Still holding out hope it gets delivered tomorrow.
ETA: Updated, made it to Kansas City and processed through facility at 10:30, Saturday it is.

No no no no ilike!
Only use XDA. Wug provides virtually everything you need and a link to the fastboot drivers at google.
This phone is designed to be unlocked and rooted so you should need nothing except google sites and XDA.

Fellas. Just stop.
Wug provides the nexus 6 lollipop from Google official server. Stop renaming files and screwing around with the system.
One click. Done. Don't start out messing with stuff to get rid of att logo when a virgin os is available from Google.
Plus once you put official Google Android on it you're in Googles update system.. Not atts.

Dude, that sucks. I've gotten stuff from CA on USPS quicker than that. Stupid Texas.

It's outside of the os, no way around it. Plus, it's just renaming a file.

How is that possible? When you flash a factory image it's effectively replacing the firmware right?

Just updated to Cyanogenmod CM12 5.0 lollipop last night on my G3. All I can say is:

I used Wug's program to root.

I already had too much shite on my phone before rooting. And, the logo and animation are on an entirely separate partition. As I said, AT&T went troll-level 10 on this.
Still learning as I go. I downloaded updates manually so that I have the "trusted places" feature now.
