so you require a phone to run while you're sleeping?
i'd love to see any 'extensive usage' of a brand new phone that results in any significant battery left at the end of the day.
extensive usage = much scientific. so knowledge.

I take that "extensively" as they used the phone primarily at the conference

Hmm, well im not suggesting that 13-14 hours is "amazing" but it seems more than enough for the average user. It'd be the most a phone of mine has ever gotten

My Nexus 5 is downloading it now

That review is also failing to mention that 5.0 had a bug draining the shite out of battery that was just patched yesterday in a new 5.0 update for the phone. Every review is for the older Dev preview version of 5.0. The update to the phone yesterday fixed so many things.
So excited for this bad boy. Camera is amazing to finally.

I think I'm going to wait for Lollipop on my N6. I really don't feel like going through a factory reset on my N4 for a week of use.
Posted on 11/12/14 at 4:45 pm to h0bnail
I'm not updating my N5, either.
AT&T charged me this AM, should be shipping soon.

i'm super pumped. i have:
2 N4s
1 N5
1 Moto G
1 LG G Wear watch
All 5 devices will recieve significant updates when lollipop rolls out
i'm not so eager i can't wait for WUG to add this ROM to his toolkit. its not there yet.

Now you just need to swap a few N4's for an N6 and you're golden.

You could download the image for N5 and let toolkit install it. Doesn't look like N4 is available yet.

This is the first time I've ever ordered a phone from AT&T. Do they generally stick to their shipping times?

First time I've ordered through AT&T in years, no clue there.
My N4 and N5 were play store preorders.
From what I've read, yes.

From Ars...

We wouldn't call it one of the best cameras out there, though. It's not as good in low light as a Note 4 or iPhone, but in daylight or indoor lighting, it can hold its own.
Android 5.0 promises lots of camera improvements, but the Nexus 6 doesn't seem to be taking advantage of them yet
quote:
In our experience, the Nexus 6 was slower than the Nexus 5. Apps took longer to launch, tasks took longer to switch, and sometimes—particularly during heavy multitasking—our Nexus 6 liked to get stuck and pause for a few minutes while it thought about things. It would often "chug" during our normal usage and in general felt like a slow device.
quote:
The real downside is that the device just feels slow, and while maybe Google has some optimization work to do on Lollipop, a big part of it is the slow storage the Nexus 6 was saddled with. It's not as fast as the Nexus 5, and it loads bigger games about as quickly as the Nexus 4, a phone from 2012.
quote:
Given that we're lacking in the storage speed department and neither the battery nor software takes advantage of the massive size of the device, the Nexus 6 is a tough sell at $650.

Yeah I've been reading reviews that are giving me some slight buyer's remorse, but the majority of the gripes seem to be fixable with software updates so I guess I'll be hopeful.

Ars was unjustly critical in their review. Forbes review nails it much better But again, they and everone else reviewed the dev preview of Lollipop which still had the wifi and battery drain issues among other things. A new update rolled out today which is said to be the final version shipping with the retail versions of the phone.
The device is significantly faster than the Nexus 5, forget that right now, just a matter of optimizing the phone and 5.0.
I know you are technical enough to know what encryption does to read and write speeds, which is where the lag is coming in. Before 5.0 Lollipop you could choose whether or not to encrypt your phone, doing so decreases the read and write speeds, but should only do so by about 10%, currently in Lollipop, doing so decreases those speeds by over 50%.
The Nexus 6 and 5.0 does not give you the option to encrypt your device, it is automatic and no setting to change it. That is becoming standard with 5.0 and newer devices from here on out.
Just going to have to let Google roll out the fixes.
Nexus 5 Non-encrypted read and write speeds:
Nexus 5 encrypted:
As you can see, the Nexus 5 goes from 141.7MB/s read and 36.14 MB/s write to 26.26MB/s read and 18.88MB/s write.
Google will take care of it pretty quickly.

Why would you buy a 6" Android behemoth without even looking at it first to see if you can handle the size? (if you have already played with a phone of that size are are comfortable with it, ignore the rest of my post). It will be worse for you since you are coming from a puny 3.5" iPhone 4S. The jump is not that big for someone that was already using a 5.2" or a 5.5" phone. I honestly believe you should have gone with the Nexus 5 - it would have been the prefect sweet spot. AT&T's return policy is not that great. I'd cancel the order if I could if the phone hasn't shipped. AT&T usually does better than the ship dates they show on the online order. Also, are you sure the slow storage issue on the N6 can be fixed by a SW update? I'm not.
