New House Internet Setup Help

Recently moved into a new home and I’m needing some direction on how to and what to buy to support that how to.
We have Cox internet and we’re utilizing their modem. The modem is in the middle of the house and other parts of the home get a weak signal. I’ve bought Wi-Fi extenders and they’re fine for browsing, but struggle with drops/buffers when trying to stream in areas the extenders are supporting.
1. I’d like to be able to hardwire my desktop computer which is upstairs and out of range from the cox modem. Do I get a wireless router with better strength for this or do I try and run Ethernet from the cox modem into the attic?
2. What’s the best equipment to use to provide better Wi-Fi coverage?

Look at a mesh system.
ASUS makes a great mesh system that most likely will cover your needs.

If it's not too much trouble, you'd be happier with some ethernet runs. Even if you just do a couple, it's worth it.

I'll need to pull up my post from a month or so ago, but I dropped their equipment and the BS $10/mo. Buy your own equipment that will pay itself back within a year and you'll avoid the drop issues. My previous Panoramic WiFi router from Cox would reset regularly on its own. Our current system has been flawless thus far.

As for the second floor, I always say run cable anywhere it is feasible, which depending on your home going floor to floor might be dead simple or it might be a huge pain in the dick. Can you check out accessibility for running cable via your attic spaces? If you can find where the coax runs to your modem, usually it's pretty easy to run ethernet cable that way too, then you can probably find a place to pop through a wall or ceiling on the second floor. Let us know and we can recommend more equipment.

I've never used it myself, but you might want to look into MoCA adapters. Allows extending ethernet over coax cable at up to 2Gb speeds.
Price seems to average about $100 per pair or devices, which would give you one ethernet run. Just need another device at each point you want ethernet.

Is it a new home, or an older home that is new to you?
If it's a new home, is it wired for internet already?
