New Google Chrome search?

Not sure if this is the right board, but figure it's close enough.
Chrome on a PC (desktop or laptop), now, when you highlight something and "search with google", opens a sidebar instead of a new tab. If you click on a result, you lose the page you're on, instead of opening a new tab/page.
Anyone know how to switch it back? I don't like it. I've always seen things, especially on sites like Tigerdroppings, where someone mentions a topic/person/phrase, and I want to know more. I search that, and now it's more of a hassle to keep the current tab and still do so.

I had never tried that so thanks for the tip! It worked fine, then checked/updated chrome and it worked just the same after update

Its really stupid and annoying, so if there is a fix I need it as well.

Agreed. Hate it. Following for a solution.

I've been using Edge/Bing search for years now with no problems. Come to the dark side.

I just tried it and it gives me a new tab, not a sidebar.
I realize that doesn't help you, just thought it was strange that I was getting a different result.

I'm fully up to date and mine opens in a new tab.

Try this chrome://flags/#search-web-in-side-panel and click on disable.

I did, but for some stupid reason it didn't work. And then I tried to do it again, and I can't find that setting anymore when I search. What the frick.
I guess I will just live with it.

Settings > Appearance > Sidebar > Pull down menu Select "Never"
