I argued against calling it an "expensive generator". Mostly because it's not a generator.

2. Are now arguing you can just keep a generator around to recharge your glorified generator (instead of just, you know, using the generator for the house)
No, I gave an example of how running your house off your EV batteries can be useful even if you do have a generator. You can either run your gen 24/7 at a cost of roughly $50/day, or run off your EV at a cost of roughly $5/day, or a bit of both depending on whether you want to save money or vehicle range. And if you have solar and an EV, then you can go without grid power or gasoline indefinitely.

3. Said you can’t keep gas around and in the same post suggest using a gas generator
What? I'm talking about natural gas generators.

Answer this for me:

Would it be interesting if, in addition to powering your truck as usual, you could run your entire house off $5 worth of gasoline per day? If the gasoline line to your house got cut off, would you power your house by siphoning a few gallons from your truck at $2.50/gal, or would you buy a few gallons from someone else at $25/gallon?

Would it be even more interesting if you could build a miniature refinery on your property, and the oil was delivered to you every day for free?

Sounds pretty fricking amazing to me.

I would hope you could agree to that absolute bare essential money management and decision making principle that any moron can understand.

range drops to like 100K miles

I'd be okay with 100,000 miles range but even still what if I want to drive around the world 5 times without stopping? Can't do that with your stupid electric vehicle, can you?

range is worse for the longer range 300 mile model because of the heavier batteries.

Yep. If you want long range, get the smallest battery pack you can buy with the shortest range model you can get. Remove batteries if you can and just use one 18650 cell. I just use the one I have in my flashlight for hauling travel trailers cross country. Less range = more range when hauling.

I did the math. It appears that the battery will take a hundred and seventy-five kilowatt-hours of electricity and discharge 150 kilowatt hours. I'm currently paying $0.0925 per kilowatt-hour for my electricity. That would cost about $16 to fill up the battery.

Considering the range of a 300 miles, the equivalent amount of gasoline at 20 miles per gallon would be approximately $45.

Last month I used approximately 1970 kilowatt-hours for my home. So I'm using about 65 kilowatt-hours per day. So the truck based on this kind of usage could provide about 2 and 1/2 days of power for my house in an emergency.

Per this early look it's looking even better than Ford said.

* The big one - range is rated with a 1000 lb cargo load. So the "300 mile" version is shown in this video with an empty bed at around 80% charge... and the range estimate is 367. That's a significant amount better, implying the full range would be well over 400 miles at full charge. If you're comparing apples vs apples, that kills the Cybertruck spec at similar price.

* Onboard scale allows software to calibrate range more accurately, helping reinforce 1st point.

* 4 x 120 outlets, and a 240 outlet in bed.

* Frunk is quite large, can hold 2 full golf bags. Secure storage area for tools, and power for them - contractor's dream truck?

How long will this truck run a 5-ton central air system? That is the only thing that matters in the south for power outages.

Good video, it looks pretty intriguing. I wish they'd lose the flower power wheels though.

A 5 ton unit requires about 6kw, so the truck will probably get you 25-30 hours of run time. Two to three days in the heat of summer I guess.

Like the poster above calculated, it will take maybe $15-20 worth of power to charge, so figure about how long that would last your house. If your bills are $300 in the summer, it will run your whole house for maybe 2 days if you don't conserve.

Look at your electric bill. How many kWh did you pull last summer at your highest month? Now divide that by 30. Use that number to divide 150. That'll tell you how many days it could power your home as you normally use it that time of year on average.

My only beef with the Ford is that even the $53k Truck doesn't have all-leather seats.

Does it feel better knowing you are getting a $7500 tax credit off of that? So $45.5k, and you haven't even negotiated the price down, yet.
