Lost my place in IDA. Going to be putting a shop house on land that I own. This will be my first go at New Construction. I am not an expert on tech but I love it.
Any advice on new construction must haves?
TIA

Run ethernet everywhere...even in the attic for Wireless access points if you want them. I would even say multiple ethernet cables to where your tv, computers, media centers will be. The less you have to rely on wireless the better. Run ethernet wherever you want security cameras as well.

Yep. It'll never be easier.
I also recommend blocking for anything that you intend to mount TVs/monitors to.

Be sure to use Cat 6 cabling

So just got done with my house. I used cat6 but would prolly say if you truely want to future proof, go cat 8. But 100% not needed and i decided against it.
run hardwire to every possible tv location
upload your plans to ubiquiti and wire for a minimum of 2-3 access points so you never lose wifi anywhere on property
hardwire for doorbells and security cameras
coax is cheap as hell so run that to every tv location and back to central IT hub
run conduit from your central "IT Closet" location to the outside so its easy for the fiber to be pulled by which ever company you go with
here i a big one that bit me in the arse.....make sure when you run the conduit from TV location on fireplace that you run 2" pvc. the damn new plugs on the "frame" style tvs is much bigger than traditional hdmi are. the 2" hdmi will future proof that location.
run block and conduit for any entertainment room you may have. run to where tv will be mounted and then down low for any gaming systems etc
make sure you wire for everything on back porch ahead of time
oh one last one that bit me in the arse....make sure you label all the cabling.

Biggest mistake I made was NOT having a floor outlet under my sofa. Wife constantly has Chargers and USB cables draped across the floor and furniture.

Cat 6 anywhere and everywhere you think you might want one. Decide on a good place for a rack/switch and put power there as well.

Add outdoor electrical outlets under eaves of roof that are on a on/off switch located near your Christmas tree. Santa Clause will thank you!

I would, at the very least, run two of them to the four corners of the house. I would inquire about having the doorbell transformer somewhere near the “tech termination” point and using cat6 as doorbell wire if the run is short enough to do so (I read mixed reviews on it but would think it would work fine).
Out of the box suggestion: If I build, I’ll probably seal and foam the attic. Having been in a couple of these in the heat of summer, I’d be very comfortable making a corner of the attic the “tech closet” which would relieve the big, ugly “drop” and need to cool a closet that has all the tech devices.
I wish my tech closet had been planned in construction rather than retrofit by me.
I used to think a central media closet was a good thing (all the cable boxes, blu ray, etc go there and get distributed out to the rest of the house). The cheap tech is unreliable. The expensive tech doesn’t really seem worth it (unless you’re truly crazy and planning for a super-modern TV-on-every-wall look and don’t want anything exposed. But if I have at least a TV stand at each location, I’ll just put a box at each location.
